Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranyia Cleveland.
Hi Ranyia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Photography has always been my form of artistic expression. My interest started at a young age. I remember I would sneak my sisters’ camera just so I can take pictures of literally anything. It wasn’t until high school when I was gifted my first camera. I would watch hours of Behind the Scene videos of other photographer’s shoots, then practice what I learned on my friends and family the next day. After I graduated high school, I changed my major and decided to pursue photography head-on. Hands down one of the best decisions I’ve made! I’ve met and worked with so many amazing people and learned new things. I even built some confidence of my own. What I love most about photography is that I get to capture the raw beauty of others. My favorite part is when I show a client their results during a photoshoot, and their eyes light up. It makes me so happy when my clients leave the shoot with a boost of confidence. I’m happy to be able to provide my services and capture the precious memories of others, and I am super excited to see where this journey brings me!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say the biggest challenge for me was switching my major. Now that I look back on the past, I realize I had nothing to worry about, but I was nervous about what people might think about me switching my major from education to an art major. Especially because I was surrounded by people who were pursuing becoming doctors, lawyers, and other major careers. I’m glad I realized how silly that mindset was because if I never changed the way I thought, I don’t think I’d be where I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in portrait photography. Anything from models, to couples, to families, I can help bring the vision to life. I’m most proud of the progress I’ve made within the past year. The quality of my work keeps growing, and it makes me think of where I started a few years ago and how every learning curve and struggle was all worth it.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how colorful and full of life my city can be. Although, I dislike the crazy drivers and the hectic traffic during rush hour. I don’t go out and explore much, especially due to recent events, but I hope in the future I’ll be able to fully experience my city and other parts of the sunshine state.
