Today we’d like to introduce you to Malika Muhammad and Ciara Grant.
Hi Malika and Ciara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
MGMT started as Heiirloom LLC in June 2016 as a one-woman show when I desired to work for myself as an event manager. My first client was Calvin Peete, a retired PGA golfer. I managed his foundation’s golf tournament and gala in Atlanta, GA since 2012. Once I had Heiirloom as the event management company behind the show, I saw it gain more attention. I then brought along my younger sister Malika to film and photograph the events. Malika was already making a name for herself as “The Industry Blogger” in our hometown, Baltimore, MD. Malika created a platform where she interviewed celebrities and music artists whenever they visited the DC, MD, VA (DMV) area. Once Malika graduated college and I finished grad school, we devised a plan to have a family business where we could still do what we love. This meant merging our talents, skills and passions. In 2017, Heiirloom was renamed Marketing and Global Management Team Worldwide, LLC., doing business as MGMT Worldwide.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Let’s just say that building a business is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do. The reason why we even started was to create a legacy and build generational wealth for our family for years to come. Being women of color, only added additional stress to our plate. Maintaining our identity and helping clients to understand our mission is a challenge we face daily. But we know it’s our job to encourage them to dig deeper. There will always be a challenge, but what’s worth having is worth sacrificing for. As we break through stigmas and find a seat at the table that was only meant for us to serve, we create a path for those coming up behind us. We use film and content marketing to reinforce our message- Stand Up For Brands, That Stand Up For You!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a Marketing and Film production company based in South, Florida. We manage, produce and design events from start to finish. Livestreaming, videography, and photography are our core services amid the pandemic. Our clients are vocal, innovative, and impactful. This means that all of our hard work producing content, building marketing campaigns, and raising brand awareness will not only drive sales, but also enhances the quality of life for all. It’s not enough that you have a great product, we want to know how it will impact the lives of your consumers. If the message, isn’t reflective of our mission then it may not be for us.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Try things unrelated to your industry. We have made so many connections through our personal lifestyles and interests. You can build relationships with people in places that you least expect, such as your boxing class or favorite coffee shop.
