Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nicole Linardi.
Hi Dr. Linardi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been a long and fruitful one. I would be doing my journey a disservice if I did not give credit to my ancestors, my family members who have come before me and have put the work in and laid out the foundation for that of which I was able to continue to water the seeds they laid down for me. My mother, my maternal grandmother, mentors, friends and colleagues have been active participants of my journey thus far and as far as I know it will continue to be–as my sole belief is that as human beings, we are not put on this earth to live in isolation but rather thrive in connection and in relation to one another– all the more making the journey a fruitful shared experience. With this being said, my story/journey began in New York– where I was born and raised. From as far as I can remember my mother worked two to three jobs to make ends meet, as a single mother that was no easy feat. My maternal grandmother had lived a similarly hard-working job, however she was a mother of four in Bogota, Colombia. My family has shown me what it is to work hard for what we have, for what we’ve earned and the legacy that we are building to continue to pass on to our future generations. I learned early on to value family, my culture, my spiritual and religious beliefs, my education and love.
As far as I know, my mother and maternal grandfather always emphasized that obtaining a higher education would set me apart from the masses and would be something that nobody could ever take from me– and they were right. They built me up and taught me to value myself, my skills, and my abilities. My parents taught me that my value and worth did not ebb or flow based on successes or accomplishments, but rather would multiply in strength and rigor with time and effort. I learned that hard work, effort, and trust in oneself stemmed from the support we get from our family, community and world-views–I wanted to be able to provide that safe space to someone who may not have been as lucky as me, or may have fallen short of finding their calling, or perhaps someone that was in search of something different from what they have known. I can tell you that my years of obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from UF, Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and recently Doctor in Marriage and Family Therapy from NSU– laid out the multiple opportunities and experiences in which have further strengthened the belief that my sole purpose on this earth is to be and extended support, listening ear, nurturing presence, and professional friend. With my educational, personal and professional experiences I was motivated to seek new endeavors for myself–I boldly and courageously decided to open up my very own private practice, in which I titled Linardi Therapy Services. My motto is Heal, flourish and thrive.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
You ask if this journey has been a smooth road and I’d love to say yes! However, no road on the face of this earth is completely and fully smooth– if you find one please let me know! I wouldn’t say that I have had struggles but rather challenges, and I am always up for a challenge! I’d say as a First Generation Latina Doctor in my family, I have had to figure out a lot of scenarios on my own. I’ve had to encourage myself to seek support, think out of the box, and to really be courageous and work extra hard despite the many insecurities, anxieties and doubts I placed before myself. I remember being denied from multiple master’s programs– getting letters of denial over and over again in the mail. But I could’ve given up! thought to myself, higher education isn’t for me, I am not smart enough or capable enough– but even then, I was able to catch that imposter syndrome and nip it in the butt! I kept on despite the setbacks. Knowing that the harder I worked and the more I looked for opportunities to make my dreams happen, that nothing could hold me back but myself. I’ve applied for scholarships, student loans, grants, volunteered, worked pro-bono, and worked in jobs below my pay-rate… all for a greater cause. That greater cause was always to grow, learn, and give back to my community. I have learned up until now, that there will always been challenges and complexities– that is life. The beauty is finding joy in the ability to make things work and finding the learning curve in these challenges. It is all a learning process– I definitely know that I am a life-long student, who’s with me.
We’ve been impressed with Linardi Therapy Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In December 2020, I decided to embark on a specific journey of my own. As we know 2020 was not an easy year for most, 2020 brought on its losses, challenges, and multiple disappointments. However, 2020 also brought with its opportunities to grow, enhance and work for a better tomorrow– appreciating how delicate and truly remarkable life is. With that being said, I decided that my ample work in hospital settings, non-profits, group private practices, universities, and paired with my recently graduation from Nova Southeastern University as a Doctor in Marriage and Family Therapy that I was more than ready to open up my own practice tailored to the local community. Linardi Therapy Services came about the need for me to be able to put my education, skills, and heart and soul into the profession through direct connection with individuals and families. I wanted to be able to provide services to the Latino community and others who are seeking a certain setting, professional etiquette and ethical guidelines in provision of mental health services.
I specialize in working with individuals who have survived trauma– domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual abuse. I also specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, depression and family conflict. I work with individuals, couples, teens, adolescents, children and the elderly. Individuals seeking a professional expert/friend to help them find their way– whether it is to narrow down professional and/or educational goals, learning coping strategies or even breaking down stigmas and healing from generational wounds. I am trained in multiple therapeutic modalities and interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), or Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT), Gottman (level III trained), Bowen, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and more. However, I am willing to put the work and energy in to be able to attune to you and meet you where you are to offer my genuine presence paired with the ample educational and therapeutic expertise that meets your needs. I want my readers and potential clients to know that I am a genuine presence. I am nurturing, caring, compassionate, and I put the work in to support and guide you as long as you too are putting in the work for yourself. You can count on me to hold you accountable and encourage you to my best capacities. I offer you a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore and navigate you and your needs so that you can heal, flourish and thrive!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something interesting about me and/or my brand that people may not know may be that I had the hardest time figuring out a name for my business I figured after a long google and domain involved research endeavor– to keep is simple, Linardi Therapy Services.
