Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Hayes
Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
I was always told to go to college to make a better life for myself. And that was my plan. I graduated from the University of South Florida with a major in Sociology and minor in Public Health. I wanted to work with children and help people. After a couple years in social work and other related jobs, I realized that was not the career I wanted, and I felt lost. I knew I liked to help people and I wanted to have fun while doing it, but after several jobs, I still was not feeling fulfilled. In 2014, I planned my own wedding. I did not understand why people were stressed out in the planning process when I was having so much fun. I planned a couple social events like bridal showers, baby showers, and parties with friends; I loved entertaining guests. A few years later, I was asked to be a bridesmaid in four weddings, and I was responsible for planning three of the bachelorette parties. I helped plan the 4th one. The planning seemed to come easy to me but I noticed some things that could drive a group crazy in trying to organize an event and stay within budget. Everyone told me I should be an event planner but self-doubt got in the way. After an emotionally tough year in 2017, I decided to reevaluate my life and concentrate on my passion. Pink Confetti Bachelorette and Events was born in 2018.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, it has definitely not been a smooth road. Planning events came easy to me, but I had to learn the business side on my own. A few of my friends started their own business, but it was different from what I was trying to do. I did a lot of research and took the leap of faith to get started. I am still learning, but I figure it is better to just get started and learn more along the way. One of my best friends works in planning corporate events and she gave me some amazing tips/tricks of the business side. I come up with some amazing and creative ideas but sometimes struggle on ways to execute it successfully. Another struggle is trying to find balance. I am a wife, mother of two kids, and I work a full time job outside of my business. I’m so grateful to have a supportive husband and parents to help relieve some of the pressure. When I first started Pink Confetti, I just knew it was a great and rare business idea and it would take off right away. When that didn’t happen like I expected it to, it made me want to give up at times. But I find ways to push through my doubt with my faith in God, prayer, and positive affirmations. I just remember that planning is what I love to do. So, I am going to do it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pink Confetti Bachelorette and Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pink Confetti Bachelorette and Events is an event planning company specializing in bachelorette parties and social events. There are plenty of wedding planners, but there are fewer planners who handle the events before the big day. I noticed with bachelorette parties, the planner is the best friend or Maid of Honor and is sometimes disconnected from the group and/or has drama in figuring out what everyone wants to do, staying within the budget, and collecting money. I help the groups stay on task and budget so everyone can enjoy the events. I also developed a party in a box called Bach Box. This box has all the essential items needed for a bachelorette party. It can even be customized for each group. I have one for the guys too called Bachelor box. These boxes include party shirts, personalized items such as sunglasses, shot glasses, and money clip etc., and a hangover emergency kit. What sets me aside from others is that I love what I do and I believe people can see that in me. I love to have a good time and everyone who knows me would call me “The Turnt and Fun One”. I am most proud of my vlog called Bach Where?! It is something that is taking me out of my comfort zone, but I am excited about it. I want people to get to know who I am, learn my personality and tag along with me as I explore cool and fun places to host bachelorette parties or ladies’ night out
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I would not say I have had any bad or good luck. I believe I am either in the right place at the right time, or I am going through a trial to learn a lesson to help build my business. Covid-19 has really been a challenge because I am an event planner and many events got canceled, including a couple of my own. Money that people would have spent on a planner, they are saving to make ends meet. I still would not call the pandemic “bad luck” but an opportunity to dive into my niche, develop more creative ideas, and make my other ideas better.
