Today we’d like to introduce you to Yulia Tyan.
Hi Yulia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Arkhangelsk. It’s a small city in the northwestern district of Russia. I got a master’s degree in economics, and a day after my graduation at university, I moved to the United States. I would never imagine in my life that being a hairstylist will be my career and something that I would love to do. I was always doing my friends and family hair since my teenage. Since I moved to Miami Beach, that’s when my professional journey in the beauty industry began about eight years ago. I started as an assistant, moved quickly to junior and then a senior stylist. Now, recently I got promoted and became a master stylist. I was planning to create an educational program for beginner colorists. I got where I am now because of my hunger for knowledge, I can tell that I learn something new everyday, and it makes me so happy that I have such a great platform to bring the creative into life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t smooth road, but it definitely made me a stronger person. One of the challenges was being an immigrant when English is your second language. Plus I grew up in a different culture, not the most friendly. 🙂 It was hard to switch a mentality and be more open with clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a full-time hairstylist. I do service anywhere from kids’ cuts to very complicated color corrections. I am known for blonde hair techniques, updos and braids. In fact, I was one of the top 3 finalists at the Modern salon magazine competition in the category “Brides and braids” and was published later on. I most proud of the fact that I’m able to talk and see different people, my client, guide them, teach something new, be their friend and therapist at the same time. I’ve learned so much and can’t wait to share my knowledge with others. I like to educate my client about any service they are getting and trying to explain as simply as possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Traveling! That’s where I get all my inspiration. And it is so important to be inspired in the beauty industry.
