Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylin Clarke, Leynah Clarke and Leazah Clarke.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story?
We are a black small business, owned and operated by us (sisters) and our mom. Bonnet Sistas started out of a vision our mom had to start a small business. She wanted us to be young entrepreneurs and build wealth for ourselves and for our future families. She wanted us to learn more about finance and how to make decisions that will be beneficial to our future.
A born leader, my mom showed us the importance of hard work and dedication. She learned sewing as a little girl and decided that she would pass on her gifts to us. We now, choose fabric prints, cut, measure and sew them to make some cute bonnets that are of great quality. We enjoy what we do and are excited to learn more.
Our bonnets are handmade with quality cotton and satin fabrics. We have a variety of prints and colors to choose from. Our bonnets come in various sizes from extra small to extra large. We have done a few local events at local pop up shops around. We’re active on our social media platforms (FB & IG), have a YouTube channel and website.
In the next 2-7 years, we hope to expand our business to offer more hair accessories, handmade products, expand our social media footprint, open a brick and mortar and grow our Bonnet Sistas family.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. We are learning about how to offer our products to customers. We have struggled with marketing and pricing our products to consumers. We are learning daily how to grow our business and are committed to its’ progression for the long term.

Our company offers handmade bonnets for all ages from extra small (babies) to extra large (long, thick hair). We offer hair accessories, bows and hair clips and scrunchies. We have various styles and prints to choose from. We also custom orders for our clients if they desire a specific bonnet. We offer pillow cases and matching sets. We sell more kids bonnets then adults. We are working on offering specific products for men and boys such as beard bonnets/beard guard and boys night caps/bonnets. We will be offering more customized bonnets and hair bows.
