Today we’d like to introduce you to Rocky Marshall.
Rocky, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After almost losing my mom and fighting not to lose my daughter to cancer, I had to choose between what I was being told and what my spirit was telling me. Only you can decide to fight or give up because everything starts with how you think and approach situations. I refused to accept what was being told to me and started taking a positive approach toward both of their situations and began doing research on herbs and healthy foods.
That’s when it hit me, I could tell a story about the fight for your body between healthy and non-healthy foods. Use the information and knowledge to express to people from all walks of life that no matter what Doctors might say about their health, never give up. Find innovative ways to address personal health concerns. From that, the Grubsters were sprouted.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road had many challenges; the biggest difficulty in creating the comic was… how do we keep our momentum going despite having to deal with things that were out of our control. Personally, when my daughter transcended in October 2019, it devastated me mentally, spiritually and physically! On top of that, consistently having to show people page from the comic before it was ready because they didn’t understand how food characters could be different from what they’ve already seen. We eventually overcame a lot of those obstacles by staying focused on our goal & not giving up on the vision.
Please tell us about Grubsters Comics.
Grubsters Comics is a blend of fun and emphasis on food. Food waste and eating healthy. We use the beliefs from the martial arts that practice inclusion, balance, and discipline to tell a story of how using foods properly can save the planet and how eating the right food can save a person’s health. When look at Chadwick Boseman, we realize that cancers is killing people and there is a place to start the battle and that is where we come in.
What I’m mostly proud of is seeing the reaction from people go “what the fruit” over how we’re infusing health with Martial arts. It’s a great feeling. Most of our fan base are also vegans and they are thrilled how we captured the real-life battles. These are what, as a company, we are really proud of. What sets Grubsters Comics apart for all the others is that its part of the reader’s lifestyle. Almost everyone can see themselves in the storylines.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
When it comes to characters, it is important that the characters can relate to real life, that people can see a bit of themselves in the character, and the characters have to be able to help people understand other views.
