Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Jose.
Daniela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Venezuela, a country known not only for its beautiful women but also for the quality of professionals that has spread around the world. I am a journalist, and despite of practicing my profession in Venezuela, I had to interrupt my career to emigrate to the United States, where after working in several jobs in different areas not related to my profession, I was forced to reinvent myself and find a profession that I really loved.
Today, I am the brain behind Galilea Razo, a brand of luxury handmade accessories designed specifically for the shoulders. They are clasps that can be removed and place on different clothing pieces, becoming a more sustainable option for the planet and your pocket. It is a different and unique option to refresh new or used clothes that are no currently in use. My idea was born about seven years ago, due to the personal need to wear something different, more personalized and economical. However, I never proceeded with the idea until now that I have enough maturity and the necessary knowledge to make each piece.
I come from a family of only women, where sewing and crafts were a generational talent, which gave us to eat and live during my childhood. My grandmother, a seamstress, my mother, a decorator, one of my three sisters, a fashion designer, and the other two business administrators. I never thought that in the future, their professions would be a key piece to make my dream come true, of having my own business, Galilea Razo, a business that is in full development. Galilea Razo is a representation of the current woman, empowered, talented, hard-working, and unique in her style.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path of the entrepreneur is almost never that simple. In my case, I have had to struggle with scarce money, since when a company is founded from the beginning, a very good economic organization is required, to be able to do magic with money. My second struggle has been with a language that is not my own, as many people tend to be racist and underestimate your talents when the language is not one of them!
My third fight was and still is time since I have three jobs at the same time so that I can dedicate myself completely to my brand in the future. But when you don’t have so much time available, you have to sew the pieces late at night or at any free time.
Please tell us about Galilea Razo.
In the past, shoulder pads were made to be worn inside clothing, but Galilea Razo differs in that it decided to take out what we carry inside and bring light, shine, color and authenticity to clothing, with a very unusual accessory for an area of the body specifies that we rarely decorate. In addition to the versatility of being able to use the same piece in countless pieces of clothing: dresses, tops, jackets.
For us, clothing is more than that. It is what gives us identity and what tells the outside who you are. I am proud as a brand to be able to provide a product that gives each user the opportunity to make it special with their style because with Galilea Razo, the designer is the one who uses it, with her unique way of combining it. It also differentiates us that we are friendly to the planet and helps to curb the massive consumption of the fashion industry, allowing us to recycle already used pieces with a fresh and different touch.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have many memories of my childhood. I remember when I took pleasant naps on the tablecloths that my mother sewed for the beautiful parties that she decorated. I also loved going with my sister to buy fabrics to make dresses for her college classes. The feeling it gives to your hands is incredible when you touch the materials in the warehouses.
In my house, it was very normal to listen to the sewing machine, and I find it funny to realize that I have never touched a sewing machine alone until now, I could have done it a long time ago.
