Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Patten and Elie Burger.
Kristen and Elie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ive know Kristen since high school she has always been such a fun creative person. She’s always been a person who’s fun full of life. i really started hanging out with her last year and that is when I met Ellie! She introduced me to fright nights which was a blast and something so new for me. Ellie and Kristen both worked there as make up artist. They’re amazing!!!! Making the actor’s come to life! Seriously awesome artists.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. Battling depression and anxiety on top of dealing with a toxic relationship make up has been the one thing amongst many others to help me come out of it. People did not believe in but I kept pushing through. I am able to create art on my face and express my emotions with colors. It doesn’t get any better than that.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sashas_creations_ story. Tell us more about your art.
Well, I started off four years playing with makeup as a way to escape from the world for a bit. It was the only activity at the time to help me with my depression and anxiety and distract me from feeling those emotions. I would literally sit for hours learning off YouTube and learn what to do and what not to do. All of my make up designs are self-taught from trial and error. I first started my cosplay about a year ago and I absolutely fell in love. The act of taking a fictional character and bringing it to life is fulfilling. It’s my healthy way of coping with my emotions and relieving stress. I got to where I am now by never giving up and practicing as much as I could. So I have a personal makeup artist page called sashas_creations. That page shows my creativity my artwork done on my body from cosplays to my own creations there. I provide character services for events or Fx for Halloween. My other business Page is sashas_beautybabes, which I am currently working on for microblading, esthetician etc. That page is for more of permanent makeup and beauty for my babies. I am known for my make up and soon, permanent makeup will follow.
I am most proud of my authenticity and humbled when dealing with clients. I am a very caring person and I wanna take care of my clients. Integrity at the highest form. I personally don’t believe in trying to set myself apart from others because I’m sure they have worked hard for what they achieved. I want everyone to make it. If that’s what sets me apart then so be it but I want everyone to win and to be able to take care of themselves and families.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I personally believe it’s how much effort you put in what you love. Good luck is when you fall in love with a craft to the point where it’ is as important as the air that you breathe. Bad luck is a lesson to help you practice more and keeping moving and perfecting your craft. I have had good luck with creating my art and bad luck in setbacks but I learned from them and now I’m able to perfect what I did incorrectly. I have had no clients and some here and there. I have had company’s reach out to me for makeup and I have had none. It comes down to pushing your company in the right direction, which is what I’m doing.
