Today we’d like to introduce you to Aicha Toure.
Aicha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing box braids in high school. My mom was really bad at doing my hair and I wanted to look good for the school. My older cousin would do my extensions for free. In exchange, I would assist her with clients. She taught me a lot about being a hairstylist.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I’m a late bloomer so I struggled with finding a job that was the right fit. There are so many types of salons and different vibes. I had to find one that would allow me to grow as a stylist.
We’d love to hear more about Touré Beauty.
I specialize in natural hair, braiding and locs. I recently started making my own styling products to cut down on the harmful chemicals. It makes me happy to see my clients and the way their hair has improved with each appointment. My main focus is on the health of the hair and helping clients reach their hair goals.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My older cousin, Bre, really was my introduction to hairstyling. She started her cosmetology courses in high school and graduated with her license. I also learned a lot from Ms. Sayblee. She is a master stylist and trichologist. She makes her own vegan hair products and taught me a lot about the health of the hair.
Alexis, of Hair by LXS, has been an inspiration and big support system. She really has taught me to have confidence in the work I am doing and how to be a better businesswoman.
