Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Taylor.
Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The idea of working for someone else never satisfied me, so I knew that starting my own business was important to me. From a very young age, I’d sell candy at school and that soon transformed into something bigger. About a year ago, I decided I was ready to invest time and money into a business of my own. I knew that it would be difficult but nothing held me back. I did everything on my own, from making my logo to delivering orders. Soon I started gaining support from my friends at school and my business started to grow. However, as months passed, I decided to expand my business and started selling a variety of items like jewelry and shades. Now it’s July of 2020, and I have over 500 followers on my business page and can’t wait to see my business grow even more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No road is ever smooth. Eventually, there will be a bump or two. I did struggle gaining support and making sales at first, which is understandable since I’m a small business. I’ve had problems with suppliers and sometimes I did want to give up. It’s important to recognize that there will be bad days. I’ve learned to look at things from an optimistic standpoint even in the hardest of times. I am also very big on manifestation. I believe that it’s important to speak things into existence and back it up with hard work.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the TayysLuxeCo story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is named “Tayys Luxe Co.” Tayy has been my nickname for years and I wanted my business to have a piece of me embedded in it. Also, the term “Co” refers to a collection. I started off selling just lashes but then transitioned to selling jewelry, shades, and now even bathing suits. Overall, my main purpose is to be able to make people feel bold and confident. The term “Luxe” refers to luxury and I do my best to provide high-quality items at a very reasonable price. As my business has grown, I am most proud of my persistence. There were times in which I felt like I was stuck and that my business wasn’t going anywhere but I kept working and ended up proving myself wrong. Apart from that, I love to keep my customers engaged. Every now and then, I do giveaways and raffles. I have even done a weekly segment on my Instagram story, where I promote small local businesses.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really think luck has played an integral role in my life and business. I think it’s more about the time and dedication that I have put in. I am beyond blessed that I have people supporting me as well. Ultimately, I think that if you really want something, you go and get it.
