Meet Maria Faria of Lamaca Music in Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Faria.

Maria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Maca. I am a Venezuelan native and a young artist. Since I can remember, I’ve always had a deep passion for music and art, luckily both of these were always available to me. Today I consider myself an ‘art junkie,’ and I’m unashamed of my addiction to music. I’ve been singing for more than a decade. As a child, I listened to Britpop and some old school jams from my mother’s old cassettes and LPs. A had my first musical epiphany at the ripe age of 4, hearing “Bohemian Rhapsody” for the first time; It shook me completely. This is when I realized that music will always be by my side.

My biggest inspirations are figures like Salvador Dali, Leonardo Davinci, Nikola Tesla, Hedy Lamar, Frida Kahlo, Simon Diaz, and of course, my mother. I feel very blessed to be her one and only child. She is so hardworking and gave me the best example of motherhood. Even growing up in a country of despair, my childhood was special and full of beauty and discovery. She also influenced me with her great musical taste, so listening to her favorite music was part of our roadtrip ritual. Singing felt more like going on a spiritual trip, especially with my wild, young voice.

My musical influences are very eclectic (like me). Bands like Queen, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Devendra Banhart, Andrea Echeverri, and Venezuelan folk Simón Díaz (tío Simón) inspire me beyond belief. I started singing professionally after I heard Amy Winehouse. Amy basically became my personal muse as I was stunned by her old fashioned jazz style with modern a touch of beats. I have a fascination for strong, deep-colored voices, witty lyrics and vintage style in general. I love experimenting.

In my five years of career so far, I’ve had golden experiences; Music has taken me to magical places, given me the opportunity to meet amazing people and travel. Currently, I am based in Miami, which for me, is the “Latin Hollywood.” A city of opportunities for music and arts, where dreams can be quickly developed into reality. Today I am helping other artists find their unique voice and develop their passion.

My MOTTO in life is “do what makes you happy”; A very simple but powerful phrase. Another quote that speaks to my soul is: Listen to your heart, be kind, trust your intuition, know your value and always follow your dreams…” One more thing! Please don’t allow anyone to bring you down, under any circumstance. This may surprise you and sounds cliché but I believe our generation has plenty of access to media, which can lead to negativity/bullying and misinformation. We need to learn how to LOVE OURSELVES and focus on the positive.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I consider myself very lucky overall, I’m an immigrant from a beautiful country who gave me such precious memories and lessons, Venezuela is still going through a really hard situation of struggle, so this aspect makes it somewhat hard because I feel for my people and it’s a constant reminder of how lucky and grateful I am to be where I am doing what I love the most.

Being an artist is never easy because we go through a lot of emotions at the same time and sometimes it’s hard to maintain a certain normalcy. I have battled with depression and anxiety for years, and music helps tremendously, in fact, there are wonderful healing properties in sound, this is scientifically proven and it’s very spiritual too. Nowadays, I feel better, mentally balanced most days. I am really proud of my accomplishments so far and definitely hungry for more.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
LAMACA MUSIC is my brand, I am a singer-songwriter but I am also the actress, the executive producer, the creative director, scene and costume designer, makeup artist, project manager and entertainer. I also write and co-produce for emerging artists, I offer them the ultimate musical experience of creating a song from scratch and I guide them throughout the whole process with my unique songwriting touch, since I’ve been on my craft for five years I found pleasure in helping others achieve their fullest potential.

What I’m most proud about my company is the fact that I see myself as a creative machine constantly changing and evolving, I never stop, I’m constantly on the move, I don’t like to be in one place, my surroundings and my friends inspire me a lot and I really think that ‘life itself’ is a never-ending work of art, and truly believe we all have the power to make our dreams come true, by helping each other. My musical gift is my calling and the power of this gift is within knowing myself and what I’m capable of doing to help others feel happier, stronger, better.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
