Shavonne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Sweet Suga Baby in April of 2019. I was a solo parent to two amazingly energetic boys and working full time. I needed my time but I didn’t have a lot of time. I wanted to create something that I could use to help me and other women to slow down and take care of ourselves. The idea of creating sugar scrubs came to me. I literally came up with a name, created my logo, and started an IG page all within an hour. I hadn’t even made my first sugar scrub. I was so determined to create my business. I was sure it would be successful.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. It has been difficult and hard to stay motivated. Lately due to the pandemic, we’ve had to be more strategic and more thoughtful. This pandemic has impacted everyone. We’ve always been about self-care but now more than ever, we have to encourage people to take care of their physical and mental health. This pandemic coupled with protest to bring awareness and justice to the lives of black people has created a lot of anxiety, fear, and depression. We are being more available to our clients and making sure they know we are there for them.

Sweet Suga Baby is a company built on Self Care. We inspire people to create a self-care routine by using our natural body care products. We educate people on the importance of creating a self-care routine and how that routine can positively impact your mental health.

I’d definitely recommend new business owners to start in South Florida because there are many young entrepreneurs here to learn from and grow with.
