Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Menache.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My senior year of college I worked for a start-up tax preparation firm. I did a lot of the heavy lifting and saw a lot of mistakes. I saw the nightmare it was when people not adequately educated on tax and accounting try to prepare tax returns – this is a big problem in South Florida.
I decided that I wanted to do better. After graduating and taking more tax courses I opened up my first company, a seasonal tax preparation firm, Max Tax Agency. With a small team of tax preparers, we got started.
I wanted to find my passion within Accounting and after paying close attention to what I liked and what I didn’t like, I noticed that I loved working with small business owners and there was a huge need. A large percentage of small business owners in South Florida do not keep accurate books and do not have the support from an accountant that is necessary for their growth. I also noticed the lack of accounting services targeting small businesses in the Miami area.
I became obsessed with all the new accounting cloud applications and my new goal was to design a simple accounting system using up-to-date technology so my clients could have accurate reports, someone to help them understand what the numbers actually mean, and a trusted advisor they can count on – ALL WHILE not breaking their pocket.
At a QuickBooks conference, I met my co-founder, Elah, who had a small accounting firm where she focused mostly on bookkeeping, payroll, and CFO services. We merged our firms together and created Beam Accounting with the vision of simplifying and beautifying the accounting and bookkeeping needs for small business owners. Our passion is watching our clients succeed and it feels really good knowing we are part of it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not necessarily, it’s quite a roller coaster. As a small business owner, there are definitely growing pains. In the beginning, it was more centered around having enough business. Once my business grew enough and the stream of clients became effortless, it started being about how to get all of the work done. As an accountant, it is easy to feel chained to my business and completely overwhelmed. However, I have found that implementing the right systems, hiring a great team and taking more of a CEO role is allowing me to break the chains and be able to run a more successful firm.
It’s all about constantly course-correcting and learning from our mistakes.
Please tell us about Beam Accounting.
At Beam Accounting we provide tax, accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll services to small businesses. We analyze the current state of a business and offer a custom tailored package based on its needs, size, and budget. Our packages are on a monthly subscription basis (no we do not charge hourly so you will not be receiving any surprise bills).
Ultimately the goal of our service is to provide our clients accurate reports on a timely and periodic basis, give them the peace of mind that they are compliant with all taxing authorities, and act as an adviser to our clients by making sure they are getting the right types of reports and can understand them. This allows our clients to focus their energies on growing and doing what they do best!
We focus on specific industries which allows us to learn industry trends and be able to consult our clients more effectively. Our target industries are food & beverage, e-commerce, design/creative industries and technology start-ups.
Some of the things that set us apart is that we are paperless, we work with many of our jet-setting clients remotely, we are constantly leveraging new technologies to keep improving our processes, and we provide advisory services.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in LA but my favorite memories were always meeting all of our family (aunts, uncles and cousins) from Mexico in Miami every summer. That is part of the reason I ended up going to college and ultimately living in Miami.
