So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a little girl, I use to pride myself in running the best one girl talent show in my neighborhood. My audience consisted of aunts, uncles, cousins, and neighbors from my small backyard in Haiti. Within the past two years, I’ve focused on the steps to being an independent artist through networking and collaborating with local musicians across South Florida.
Today, I am proud to say that I have released original music that is available across international platforms. I’ve had the pleasure of working with numerous respectable artist collectives such Soul Fam, The Uproar Project, and RnBae. I am also active as a critical nurse in my community and my goal is to make impactful music from my experience in life, career, and interactions. My multi-cultural lyrical style has been constructed to give a colorful yet profound perspective to its listeners. As we face this current COVID-19 pandemic, I am currently working on a song that will allow us to better empathize with the patients and health workers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a first-generation immigrant, my commitment to music has been doubted and questioned by many. When I became a nurse, many people thought of music as a childish dream that I had learned to leave behind. However, it gave a greater appreciation and understanding for music. I now see a way to bridge the gaps within our community in a way that I have never done before. Music has been the universal language in many settings where communication wasn’t possible before.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a vocalist and songwriter at heart, and it is an honor to be able to paint a relatable picture for my listeners through my lyrics and melody. My music is able to cater to wide range of audiences because of its multicultural appeal. Many of my songs include creole and French lyrics. Therefore, I am able to provide my supporters a unique and wholehearted experience.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me success is defined by the impact. Most of my songs are inspired by very personal experiences with the hope that my own vulnerability will allow my listeners to see themselves clearer. Thus making me highlight the quality of the experience that I provide to my listeners than the quantity of listeners.
