Meet Pamela Valencia of PVCOLLECTIVES in Pembroke Pines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Valencia.

Pamela, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
What started as an online portfolio for my writing and my photography quickly turned into my business. Was that always the plan? Yes, but it happened quicker than I was anticipating. Basically, I was approaching thirty and I wanted to have accomplished more than just getting my bachelor’s degree.

The plan was always to combine my writing with my photography, even though I had never picked up a digital camera professionally. I’m still in the learning stages and although I get frustrated sometimes because things don’t go my way, I am so happy I started this company. It’s mine and no one can take that accomplishment away from me. I started photographing people but I quickly realized that I loved to photograph events. Starting PVCOLLECTIVES combines my love for photography and journalism perfectly. I can ask questions and also take beautiful images.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I started my business officially December 2019 and it’s been hard trying to get people to give me a chance. Even when taking images for free people still don’t give me the time of day. I understand that sometimes people are nervous in front of the camera. But my main focus is trying to help companies with brand images. The way I describe branding images is images of people with their business.

Please tell us about PVCOLLECTIVES.
What PVCOLLECTIVES offers is headshots of business for their business and I also cover events. Even if their brand is a product and not necessarily of them out in the field, I also take images of that. People tell me that I am trying to focus on too much. But I’m focusing on businesses (small or big) and what I can offer them. Behind every business, whether they are making candles or they are a wedding planner, there is a person and that’s who PVCOLLECTIVES targets. The person behind the business.

Since I’m still building PVCOLLECTIVES, I have a few portraits and a few events on my Instagram. I am trying to get people to find me via the images on my Instagram or on my website. I’m proud because there have been many instances where I could’ve just quit and I didn’t. What sets me apart is my ability to cover events from a journalistic perspective. So when you hire PVCOLLECTIVES, aside from getting beautiful images, you also get a well-written piece.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Going to Barnes and Noble to get a new book. I’ve always been a reader and those times when my mom would give $20 to get a book was always so precious to me. She would leave me in the store for a few hours and I would just roam around. Best. Time. Ever.
