Today we’d like to introduce you to Rayza Perez.
Rayza, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My sales career started in the car business where a friend once came to purchase a car from me and I remember seeing their financials and being like wow, what are you doing now? He let me know he was in Real Estate and I remember having gone to get my real estate license as soon as I turned 18 and just never having done anything with it. A few months later, I took the dive into the business as well. I went all on day one. In my career, I jumped around from different fields trying to find “my thing” working with investment homes, to selling residential, then to luxury and then to commercial real estate. I worked alongside some of the best people in the business and had the best support anyone could have while I was growing.
I truly believe my surrounding is what allowed to succeed. I had a lot of great people around me cheering me on and then one day after years of my family talking to me about going on a mission trip and years of saying “ehh, maybe next time” I finally said yes and experienced the most fascinating life-changing trip with Lifo MIssions which I always joke around is the adult version of Blue Missions and we built a water project in the Dominican Republic. This year is really exciting because they have allowed me to lead my own trip to DR, where I have invited a bunch of friends and more are welcomed to join the movement. After my initial trip, my life gained a purpose and I continued with having my best years since I have been in the business and my trips to DR continue on a yearly basis.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing about this road has been smooth if I can be honest. I am a very quiet person and not many people know this part of my story but when I first started I went through an extremely hard time I had lost all my money on a bad investment, I was going through a hard time mentally where I went through a depression and I had a hard time getting myself mentally in the right place. I remember my first year in the business selling 27 properties purely out of desperation and then year two selling only seven and making $27,000 and that year not being able to go to the office because I needed to save my money for gas to go on appointments and surviving off of easy mac’s all while crying in my car before appointments but putting a smile on my face as soon as I got off the car.
I always had a smile on my face and no one had any idea what I was going through but I remember working at a large firm and everyone was always so nice to me, so encouraging and so many people looked up to me and, I was the girl everyone always called on for help on deals and advised. I never really understood why they would but it moved me and motivated me to become better and I did. That second year I remember walking into the office and letting them know I was quitting. They looked me in the face and said no, give it all you got for 90 days and I did just that and everything changed. It wasn’t easy at all but I fought hard and every part of it was so worth it.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I have worked with DWNTWN Realty Advisors for a little over and year and I sell commercial real estate in Miami primarily in areas such as Hialeah, Doral and surrounding markets. I made a move here because I wanted to grow and challenge myself and this company has really inspired me to be a better broker for many years prior I just sold real estate but working here has made me become an expert in my field.
I have had to learn my market well, learn the numbers, understand the trends, who’s buying, who are selling and get to know them. If I am selling a property in a specific market, you can trust I know everything about that market. I believe what makes me different is people trust me, they know I’m not going to steer them wrong and I actually care about every area of my client’s life. It doesn’t end after the sale. It usually has just begun.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Miami is such an amazing city. I love everything about it but I have to say my favorite part of Miami is the people. I love that we are all from different backgrounds and you can literally experience a bit of every culture here. Its a fun, illuminating city with so much color and diversity. In Miami, we will take the worst city and turn it into the newest trend. We will turn an old warehouse into a fancy retail building. We really are a creative city. My parent’s lived on the beach when I was younger so I love the beach but I really could do without all the traffic.
