Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Peixoto.
Sabrina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The dog biz all started in college. I’m originally from New York and came down to Miami for college. My household back home is known as the Peixoto Zoo. Our family/friends joke about charging a fee to come see all the pets at our house. I was always used to having a company at home, so naturally, when I got to college, I wanted to get a dog. My dad, Joe, started sending me emails to sign up to start watching dogs instead, and so I did. One five star review led to many more and clients started referring friends and family. This business really grows by word of mouth. So, I had a great side job brewing while in school and it continued for a few years. I did my masters and got a job from home so was able to still do both.
I moved to Edgewater in front of Margaret Pace Park. There’s a huge dog park there, and that’s when things really took off. I decided I could do the pups full time and really grow the business if I gave it all my attention and energy. I came up with the name So Doggin’ Cute, got an LLC, insurance and started advertising! Sure enough, So Doggin’ Cute grew overnight. I never imagined it would become what it is today. I quickly realized an apartment was just not cutting it anymore. I purchased a house in Shenandoah and converted the yard into a doggy oasis. We now offer daycare Monday-Friday and it’s a full-on dog pawty. We also do cageless boarding, dog walking, house sitting, check-ins and doggy transportation!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Because my clients love me so much, it’s my biggest blessing and obstacle as well. Some clients want me and only me to care for their dogs. With a growing business, I found a small team to help me complete all the services we offer our furry clients. Some clients wouldn’t and still will not book if it’s not me doing the service. As I can’t be in 10 places at once, it’s been a struggle, but I’ve learned to explain this is no longer a one lady show and everyone on the SDC team is amazing!
Please tell us about So Doggin’ Cute.
At So Doggin’ Cute, we much rather hang out with dogs vs people, and that’s exactly what we do all day! We’re located in Miami, Florida, and we offer doggy daycare, in-home boarding, dog walking, house sitting, transportation and airport services as well. We’re known as the place dogs rather be at than with their owners. Pups are so excited to arrive and not so happy to leave.
Whether we’re watching a dog or walking them, we’re known for sending amazing pictures and putting owners at ease that their pooch is in great hands while they’re away on vacation or at work. I think people really love that we are a close-knit company, we give our clients the personable relationship that dog facilities lack. They know exactly who is caring for their dog and can text us at any time for updates and pictures. Since we’re a home-based company, the dogs get to come with us on outings, to the park, for lunch, etc.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Starting my own company at the age of 25 was definitely challenging, but I think you have to live it and go through everything yourself to really figure out what works for you and what you need to tweak moving forward to keep growing and getting better!
