Meet Juan Rodriguez of Nusr-Et in Brickell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Rodriguez.

Growing up in the most dynamic city in the world taught me lifelong lessons. New York City made me the person I am today. I am forever thankful to have been brought up in a multicultural melting pot where people strive daily to pursue their dreams. Being born and raised in the Bronx with a Dominican father and Puerto Rican mother inculcated a hustler mentality in me. The city will toughen up your skin and as they say, “If you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere”. I began to gain my work experience back when I was 17 years old. During the summer of 2010, my high school was hosting a job fair. It was there where I applied for my first job in a McDonald’s and started working a couple of weeks after. From there I was eager to expand my capabilities and venture to greater opportunities. In this job, I learned the art of intellectuality and hospitality.

I am a young hospitality professional whose been in the industry for over 7 years. While working in small boutiques all over New York City, I gained a vast amount of knowledge in hotel operations. In 2016, I received the opportunity to work in the luxurious Biltmore Hotel in Miami. I decided to move out of my comfort zone and set out to this new city by myself. As the front desk agent at this hotel, I strengthen my problem-solving skills, learned how to master the needs of guests and not only to deliver exceptional service but a memorable experience.

Presently, I am an event coordinator at the high-end restaurant chain Nusr-Et famously known for its celebrity chef #Saltbae (yes, the one who sprinkles the salt on the meats). In this role, I am responsible for all aspects of event planning and execution for both U.S. locations (Miami/New York). For me, time management is crucial when event planning, from the moment the proposal is sent out to the guest to the actual moment of execution. I’ve been privileged to coordinate and assist celebrities in their special gatherings. Working with such high-profile guests exposed me to many aspects of the hospitality industry. I let creativity run free while meticulously exceeding guest expectations. It truly fills me with gratitude when a guest mentions their satisfaction and appreciation. Throughout each dinner event, I learn different key details and I am open to any constructive criticism.

Has it been a smooth road?
Every success brings struggle and hard work behind it. I am a firm believer that what you put in, is what you get. Being a minority in this nation has been a major challenge for me. It feels like we must constantly prove ourselves to our capabilities and worthiness. Each day I kickass in everything I do and aspire to become part of the Latino excellence.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
What sets us apart at Nusr-Et steakhouse is that we aren’t your typical steakhouse. We showcase table side presentations alongside liquid nitrogen spread through the restaurant and a live DJ to set a hip ambiance. Our celebrity chef and Instagram sensation Mr. Nusr-Et Gokce is for the people. He has made it evident by his actions. During International Women’s Day in 2019, we highlighted the empowerment of women from all over the world. At every international Nusr-et location we hosted a complimentary three-course experience as an appreciation for the leadership of all women. As part of the Nusr-Et team, I value our company culture and the contributions made for our community.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
When you think of Miami, you think of it’s pristine beaches, it’s vibrant nightlife and it’s year-round warm weather. All these characteristics blended with a sophisticated cosmopolitan core attract leisure and business travelers. Since this city is a top tourism destination, the hospitality industry is constantly flourishing. I personally chose this city because of the major opportunities offered in hospitality. For someone just starting out their career in hospitality I would suggest considering Miami as a potential destination to obtain quality experience.
