Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexy Poutrel.
Alexy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a French artist from Paris, France remote from the worlds of photography. I started my work on French Television as a host and journalist. A few years ago, I decided to realize my childhood dream to move to the United States. I started the work of photography at this time. Now my photographs have been published internationally in magazines such as Balthazar Art Magazine, Accountece Magazine, Elle, Photo mag, just to name a few. I realized a body of work as a creative director, guest artist, art collector, actor and entrepreneur.
In 2005, at the request of his clients to provide full creative direction services, he formed Alexy P & PLACE2KISS which today is a growing artistic, feel-good project that allows me to realize the breadth of my creative output.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think that the road of life is a smooth road; there are ambushes, traps, dead ends… For me my biggest struggle was the language as English is not my mother tong. So when I studied photography, I had to learn it in English and it’s funny because now – five years later – there are some technical words that I am not able to say in French. When you are far away from your roots, family, friends, you are alone so it takes a little bit more time. But when you keep faith in your work, everything can happen.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I created this production company several years ago. In the beginning, I focused on Executive Productions for French TV, video clips, corporate videos, etc… and now I am specialized in art photography. I am blessed to have a good eye. I can see things very fast and I have an unlimited imagination. My passion: shooting landscapes during my road trips throughout the world. Everybody can buy a camera and do photography, so the real difference is the eye.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would say yes and no. Of course, Miami is a great city for shooting video or photography because the light is amazing; the environment is beautiful with the palm trees and the beach. Wynwood also offers a radically different setting with a more urban style. Miami is definitely a great place for video and photography companies since there are events all year long. My thought is that Miami should do more in helping to promote local photography artists.
