Meet Adrian Zamudio and Andreina Cruz-Zamudio of The Tiny Mallet in Dania Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Zamudio and Andreina Cruz-Zamudio.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
How we got started is our most frequently asked questions, and our favorite to answer. It all began during our engagement. In preparation for our wedding, I asked Adrian, “what are you gifting the groomsmen?” Puzzled, he thought about how much he appreciated his boys and wanted to get them something unique. Maybe handmade. As is his nature, Adrian thought of something earthy, that they could use while camping and hiking the Appalachian trail during the bachelor getaway.

Weeks later, he came back to me and said: “I’m thinking I’ll make them some wooden mugs, and they can even use them at the wedding.” He spent days researching and sketching. His background in Industrial Design helped him solves the complexities of making a durable wooden mug of this size.

Needless to say, the mugs were a huge hit, with the groomsmen and with everyone who came in contact with them in Virginia. Our family and friends raved about them on our wedding day and soon after we started to get inquiries… a lot of inquiries. The rest is truly history. He taught me how to make them and now we are both pouring our love, craft, and vision into each mug.

We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to keep moving forward. Creating different designs and expanding our brand with our new T-shirt line. All have been inspired by our real-life events and scenarios, such as our ‘I like my wife but I love my beer’ tee. We are continuing to challenge ourselves and what we can do with our product.

Has it been a smooth road?
Living in South Florida, weather can be unpredictable. While we are a start-up company, woodworking from home with no garage is certainly a challenge. At first, we fell behind with orders and thought that we were in over our heads, then we soon created a makeshift shed in the yard to shelter us from the elements and allow us to work outside even in the rain.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Tiny Mallet – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Tiny Mallet is a creative company started by an artistic husband and wife. We are so proud to work together and play off each other’s vision for the next product or event. We combined our strengths, and our love of craft beer and are currently creating wooden mugs and topic related t-shirts. We really love handcrafting each mug, knowing that no two mugs will ever be 100% alike, just like the people who purchase them.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love that South Florida is pretty laid back! We love seeing more and more artists unite and support each other. But that can also be a double-edged sword; sometimes creatives will not open their mind to another creative’s ideas. That is why we hope that every time you go to a bar or brewery with our mugs, you’ll open yourself up to conversation with the stranger to the right or left.
