Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Alexander.
Sophia, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Of course. So, I’m a Miami native. I moved away to Boston for college and came back to Miami afterwards to kick-start my career. Like many post-grads, I found myself searching for what I really wanted in a job description. I have always been a doodler of dreams. When I was young, I had an accident where I almost lost my life. After I was given that second chance at life, I decided to only surround myself with adventures that would make my doodling-self grow; even if it just meant illustrating on my agenda back in middle school. I had never labeled myself as an “artist” since I believe everyone is a master of their own craft, but I came to realize that through photography, I am able to share more than just an image.
In 2019, I finally launched Scar-Studio to see where the world would take me and now, I can proudly say it is a multi-faceted creative service and design hut. It’s been a wild dance the past few years, but I am ready to continue conquering the world through this bird’s eye view by helping you all turn your scars into stars.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not. I had been on an emotional hiatus since 2014, where I had to understand that being in-denial about an abusive relationship ending in trauma wasn’t going to get me anywhere. It had affected my confidence and truly how I wanted to express myself as a creative. I struggled with not believing I could start my own business and would just wander off into producing beautiful experiences for others. When I started taking art classes about a year ago, it was one of the most daunting experiences ever, but it taught me to focus and stay within the right frame of mind.
Please tell us about Scar-Studio.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Miami has always been a city inspired by the “hustle”. Honestly, I believe it can be hard to start as a creative in any city no matter who you are. I believe those who want to make it really have to spread their wings anywhere; but in Miami, it is all about the time, the place and who you’ve met along the way. Luckily, I’ve met some interesting and like-minded people within the last year who crave that same passion to create and it’s extremely inspiring. To more directly answer your question, I think Miami is a great place for what I do. There is not an inch of this city that doesn’t offer something for a creative. Simple or vast, you just have to be open to explore—which is what I’m still doing in order to give you the best visual experience I can.
