Meet Kevin Davis of Investment Dojo in Broward County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Davis.

Kevin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my writing career as a rapper on Warner Bros. Records in 1989. It all started when I was kicked out of my house and needed to find a way to survive. I had no clue at 17 years old that I was chasing a pipe dream. I turned out to be one of the lucky ones because my record “Stomp” was a huge success. After my recording career, I became a stockbroker — which was a total about face and the biggest challenge I have ever faced in my life. It undoubtingly became my biggest blessing because it taught me how to empower myself financially.

Now, if you fast forward to my new life as an author it makes perfect sense that I would write a book titled, Who’s Your Daddy? What Every Son Needs To Know to instruct my son on money, inheritance, and my story of triumph.

It was as if I was struck by lightening because I had this deep desire to change the financial position we all leave our future generations. So, I set out on a purposeful path to educate and empower through financial education.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It seems that struggle has been my middle name, but now as I look back every bit of the process has made me into the person I am today.

It is because of the many challenges I faced along the way; it has instilled in me to build a bridge or ladder mentality.

That means whether there is a mountain or mole hill of a problem, I build a bridge or ladder to overcome it.

I’ve always understood that if there was a problem worth solving, perhaps time is better served solving it instead of worrying about the problem.

I have gone from having a major hit record to being labeled a one hit wonder. I found myself at the notorious stock firm, Stratton Oakmont, wrapped in controversy due to my own greed and ignorance.

I lost my mortgage company in the 2008 mortgage crisis and there were countless other character-building exercises during this time.

It was only through the grace of God and the reconciliation with my mind and spirit that I found my true purpose.

Investment Dojo – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My new company, Investment Dojo, is formed strictly for the purpose of empowering people to learn about their finances.

I was a former stockbroker, a mortgage company owner, an insurance agency owner, and I’m still currently licensed as an Insurance agent.

Investment Dojo teaches the basic fundamentals of investing and researching. It started out as an investment club in 2017; in 2020, the company will expand into consulting.

I connect the right professionals to those who are seeking financial education and desperately need honest folks working in their best interests.

It has been my experience that everyone wants to better themselves, but have little to no knowledge of how to do it.

Secondly, the investment professionals they entrust are too focused on commissions and company products to do the right thing.

So, we are people with the information to understand not only what the investment professionals are doing, but provide services that monitors those who they are entrusting their legacies to.

We often hear stories of how sports figures went from having it all to going broke in half a second.

It’s time we have a watch dog for the financial service providers claiming to be the best thing since slice bread.

I believe we will be well received because I am unaware of any companies that do what I do,

We strongly believe in financial literacy for a better quality of life.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
As a whole, success has changed dramatically over the years. I believe it solely depends on where your priorities are in life. Success for me these days is living my purpose, as well as being present as a full-time dad.

When I was younger, success carried all of the trappings of status, money, and material things. As I grew, I became thankful to awake everyday and see my family.

For me, there is no better feeling than being a dad, so I pray daily for health and the ability to see my son grow.

Success also carries the responsibility to pay it forward in the form of giving back to those who either helped you along the way or those who need mentorship and guidance.

Too many times we see folks who have become successful and it becomes more of a status symbol instead of a symbol of hope.

I truly believe in helping and raising the economical standard of those who want to learn.

So, success for me in a nutshell is being healthy, having a healthy family, and being financially capable to provide whatever needs are necessary.
