Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Gutierrez.
Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As long as I can remember, I had a dream to create a brand of my own and one day turn it into a storefront. However, LIFE happens and your life takes many turns. I eventually came back to my craft and started to create simple home decor items and personalized shirts for trips and special occasions. One day my husband asked, “Why not create the brand you’ve always wanted?”. So on April 2, 2017, I decided to turn my dream into a reality. On that day, I opened an Etsy shop known as “Melsweetcraft”; since all dreams start in ETSY, and I can honestly say it has been a great experience. I have grown so much as a small business owner.
I have learned so many aspects of running a business like customer service, competition, time management, and the hardships of sales traffic. As of today, the shop is doing well and I am truly excited for what the future has in store for us. Opening Melsweetcraft has been one of the best decisions I have ever made and it has become a part of who I am. This brand is not just a small shop to purchase shirts or other goodies, it’s a brand that you can build a relationship with or even better a friendship.
Has it been a smooth road?
From the moment I decided to open “Melsweetcraft”, it has definitely not been a smooth ride. It’s extremely difficult to market a brand that is similar to so many other competitors. Yes, I try to be as unique as possible but getting customer’s attention is the most difficult thing one does as a business owner. There’s always a peak season for the shop but doesn’t change the fact that our sales traffic has been the most challenging obstacle throughout the years. This obstacle has been the main reason why I want to quit sometimes. But I am not letting myself just drop all the hard work I’ve done these past years.

Melsweetcraft specializes in clothing apparel mainly Tshirts for everyday use or special occasions which is what majority of our customers and social media audience know us for. As well, we try to branch out of our comfort zone and create party favor tags, event welcoming signs, event seating charts, and so forth. We are definitely a brand that likes to expand our horizons and do our best to give what the customers are requesting. As a company, we are most proud of the growth we have established since 2017 and the determination it has to provide for others. Melsweetcraft isn’t your ordinary shop that you just contact for shirts it’s a company where you have build a relationship and is always there for you with business or personal, and that’s what I believe sets us apart from others.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Miami is a great place for a business like mine or any type of business. This city brings many open opportunities for those who strive to build, it’s a city that teaches you how to overcome many obstacles in the business industry. For those who would like to start a business but hesitate to start it in Miami, I understand your worries to start in Miami and your right there are many competition here but without facing these competitors your not going to learn how to overcome different obstacles/challenges in a business. Miami is a city that’s alive 24/7 and during those days and nights, it teaches you how to improve your business. The do’s and don’ts you learn it here. We are a unique city, never forget that.
