Today we’d like to introduce you to Hazel Mulan.
Hazel, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love for singing started at the age of four years old. I sang in my school and church choir from age 4 to 11 years old. My parents continued to nourish my love for the arts by involving me in different extracurricular activities as; ballet, jazz, cheerleading & singing recitals. After high school, I went to college and I received my associate’s degree but I felt unhappy putting all my time, energy and money into something I didn’t want to do. I had such an incredible passion for singing and at that time I was ready to pursue it. I started searching for colleges that had anything to do with singing or creative arts. I sent my application to a few different colleges and I was accepted into Los Angeles Film School for music production. After that, I packed my bags, found an apartment near campus and moved to Los Angeles.
When I was in LA that was the first time that I ever started recording my music and dedicating my life to my artistry. While in LA I also started doing my friends lashes as a side hustle. After a year I moved back to Miami because financially it became unmanageable to stay in LA and I missed my family. While in Miami I got my certificate as a lash technician and I was working waitress jobs for a while until I started working at a salon as a full-time lash technician. As of now, I have had the opportunity to create more music, videos, perform at shows, host gigs and I recently released my first album titled “True Color”.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish it was smoother than I imagined but my mother always tells me nothing worth having comes easy and that’s with anything in life. On this road to success, I deal With things daily I’m a human just like you .wether it is from my family, friends or just social anxiety I get from crowds and meeting new people. In this industry Working with different people you constantly are faced with different energies every one isn’t always in a great mood or give you their best efforts, most are in it for the fame or money so it’s been hard to find real people who are honest with me and not want to use me for what I have to offer. I’ve had some people who told me I’ll never see success if I didn’t do certain things or have sex with certain people.
I never let it get to me I just disassociated myself with a lot of people to keep my peace of mind. I just continued to make music on my terms because it makes me happy even though there are some people in the industry with ill intentions. The best advice I can tell any upcoming artist Especially women is to make your own money and seek advice from people who genuinely love you try to build a solid team with people who believe in what you’re trying to accomplish. Don’t feel the need to do anything or sell yourself short, know your worth. At the beginning of the year, I created my first LLC, harmony & music entertainment, I will say it’s not easy being an independent artist but it has its perks, I’m my boss & I handle all my finances and bookings.
Tell us more about your work.
I’m known for writing songs and make music, performing at gigs & hosting events.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I never really relied on Luck per-say I put my faith in God and the universe. I feel if I continue to put out good into the world & set my intentions clear plus hard work I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.
