Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria and Nicole Scotto.
Maria, Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Balanced Life Therapy Group is a mother-daughter owned business. Maria Scotto, my mother, was studying to obtain her degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling while I was studying for my bachelor’s degree in education. I can vividly remember her sitting at the kitchen table and studying all of her mental health textbooks. Soon after, I found myself reading her textbooks in my free time. I was so interested in everything she was learning. I realized then, that this was ultimately what I wanted to study as well.
While I started my career as a teacher, I also started graduate school to obtain my degree for Clinical Mental Health Counseling. By this time, my mother was a licensed mental health counselor and already working in her field.
Since I began studying mental health, my dream has always been to open a private practice. So, I started talking to my mom about this dream. She was hesitant at first, but knew that together, we could accomplish this dream. Before you know it, we were looking into renting office space.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been a rocky road, but it has definitely been a long road. There is no manual for opening your own business. There is a lot to learn and a lot to be done. From small things like furnishing an office space, to bigger things such as advertising and marketing. This has been a learning experience for both of us.
Balanced Life Therapy Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our business provides therapy and counseling services to adults, children, individuals, and families. We provide these services in our beautiful and comfortable Aventura office. However, we also offer in-home services where a licensed psychotherapist can come right to your home and provide our counseling services in the convenience of your own surroundings.
As a company, we are most proud of our ability to serve a diverse population with quality therapy services. Our goal is to help individuals achieve their highest potential, develop healthy coping skills, and live the life that they aspire to!
We accept most insurance and offer a sliding scale fee for those without insurance.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We believe success is defined by your level of happiness and fulfillment. As a mother-daughter team, we have similar aspirations to help individuals improve their quality of life and level of functioning. Success means helping as many children, adults and families as we can! Success also means positive feedback from individuals and knowing that we have made a positive difference!
