Thanks for sharing your story with us Lori. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
TheFourFiveFour derived simply from my love for writing. Growing up with influences like my aunt, Petulia Clarke, who started as a journalist and is now an editor at a major publishing company in Jamaica. To Carrie Bradshaw from Sex And The City. Yes, the character, played by Sarah Jessica Parker. Tie in my love for music, fashion, beauty, and TheFourFiveFour was born. Having a husband who is a photographer doesn’t hurt either.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say it was more of a long journey as opposed to a rocky road. My biggest downfall has been me being side tracked by other projects. I currently have multiple online stores, I make YouTube videos, I’ve jumped into event planning, designing, freelance makeup artistry, I run over ten social media accounts and the list goes on and on.
Tell us more about the business.
TheFourFiveFour started as a hobby. Somewhere I could say whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. That quickly grew into the company that it is now. A media house that has over 300,000 views on the blog, over 30,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, a 10k plus reach on social media, two successful live events, an apparel company and a wig line and we’ve had the pleasure of being invited to, and covering, some of South Florida’s premier events. What I’m most proud of are two things, 1. We aren’t a gossip blog. We attempted that route and it felt ingenuine. Plus with so much negativity already on the internet, we didn’t want to be an added force. 2. I love how much we have expanded the brand to incorporate the things that I write about, hair, makeup, music (coming soon) and fashion.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, I don’t believe in luck. It sounds super cliché, I know, but I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and nothing ever happens before it should.
