Today we’d like to introduce you to Arturo Martinez.
Arturo, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been close to the arts, I used to write poetry when I was little, but perhaps the most important activity to me was listening to music. At the age of eleven, I started playing guitar and eventually creating music became a passion I wanted to be part of. I knew there were a lot of amazing musicians, and a lot of them had far more skills than me, but I knew I had a gift for the arts so I decided my way to contribute to the music industry would be producing and engineering. I graduated in Orland at Full Sail University with a degree in Recording Arts and I’ve been developing my skills constantly ever since.
A few years ago I had the pleasure of working with an amazing Ecuadorian artist, Fernando Pacheco. He is a very talented musician. I was honored when he came to me to produce his album, Mundo. In the process we became friends and we ended up working on a project for Operation Smile Ecuador, which this album was part of.
I had the pleasure to get an internship at Crescent Moon Studios. I stayed there for two years, and I was able to work with some of the most incredible people in the industry. I’m very grateful to have been part of such amazing projects. I was honored to be able to work as an Assistant engineer for The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize 2019.
While I was doing my internship I started studying Photography. I immediately fell in love with it, I was suddenly able to express my self in a completely different way. When you create through music, it is all about the feeling you create through different sounds, words and rhythm. But in photography, you are creating through a visual perspective. I believe channeling my creativity through different mediums allows me to explore more and get new ideas based on all the experience I get through both arts.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a roller coaster. I don’t think you ever stop learning, and there’s always ups and downs.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I work in the music industry as a Music Producer and Mixing Engineer. I’m the one that oversees the band or performer’s sound recording in the production. I gather and select the musical ideas in conjunction with the artists for the project, I select the songs that I believe will have an impact on the listener. I often help with the arrangement, sometimes I pick up session musicians for specific parts in the song. Overall, I’m in charge of getting the best out of the artists. I’ve worked with some amazing artists, and I’ve got a ton of experience working by assisting one of the best producers and engineers out there. I was recently named musical ambassador by Operation Smile Ecuador. My areas expertise goes all the way from, sound editing, tuning, recording, mixing and producing.
Also, I started photography a couple of years ago, but I take it really seriously. I studied under amazing photographers, and I’m confident that I have a unique style that separates me from the rest. My knowledge of editing, toning, and composing is what makes me a professional photographer.
I’m proud of what I’ve achieved but I know my path continues and I will never stop. I have much more to achieve and much more to share.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As creators, our future plans are constantly changing. It all depends on the opportunities we take and the ones we don’t. But I’m always looking forward to the next adventure, and excited to share every piece of art that makes me proud.
