Meet Sandra Elidor of Parenting Plug in Broward and North Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Elidor.

Sandra, before we jump into specific questions about your company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My life was wrapped around my family, and I didn’t have anything just for me. The only titles I had was a wife and mother, and both titles are given to me thought someone else. I am a wife because I married my husband. I am a mother because of my children. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family. They mean the world to me, but I was losing me. During that time, I was praying consistently to find my purpose. What was I created to do? My only task can not be just a wife and mother! God was revealing something that I love, but it did not make sense to me of where he wanted me to do it. I love teaching, and I enjoy it. I love seeing my kids finally understand a concept. I did not mind going into teaching. Matter of fact, I thought that was what God wanted me to do. The only problem was, my mind was one-sided. I thought he wanted me to go to a traditional school teaching elementary, middle, or high school kids. I was a little depressed with that idea. I love teaching, but I did not want to teach in a school setting. (I hated that idea). Since that is what I believe God wanted for me, I applied to become a substitute teacher.

I did everything, submit paperwork, attended orientation. Only to hear, the school board didn’t receive anything. (Mind you, you have to provide all of your paperwork before they can send you the date, location and time for orientation). I was upset, and I had to resubmit everything.  Once I submitted the paperwork for the second time. I called the school board, and they received my paperwork, but this time, I was told the system was not working correctly, and they could not provide me any updates. They gave me the same excuse for three months. All while they were hiring new substitute teachers.

After something, God confirmed to me that he needed me to teach a different way. He needed me to teach parents how they should educate their children. I was in love with that concept. I could have more impact on children by assisting the parents. My mind opened up, and I began to come up with ways I can teach parents. One idea that comes to mind was to get more experience. I needed to find out what the kids needed from their parents. What problem do I need to help them solve? I contact the school board to find out the status of my application. Behold, what was blocked, is now opened. They told me my application was in the system months ago, and they were ready for me to start.

God needed me to change my perspective on how he wanted me to do his work and fulfilled my purpose. If I were able to substitute with the mind frame I had, my next step would have been, become a teacher (Even if I was missable while doing it).

The direction God gave me opened a world of opportunities for me. Now I am a speaker, a parenting coach, and an infertility advocate. I am the go-to person for parents that need help with educating their children, disciplining, how to parent while married, how to raise stepchildren, raising preemies, and how to cope through infertility. I also help other women find their purpose.

I think parents are the key to a better future.
“I believe parents are the first teachers. “To reach the next generation properly, we must educate their parents.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t. I had to be a one-person show. I had to be the created, the editor, the photographer, the videographer, the researcher all while being a wife and mother. I still had to manage my home. I was the first one up, the last one down. I had to cook dinner, help with homework, and learn to create my brand all at the same time. I am still learning.

Please tell us about your company.
My company name is “Parenting Plug,” and I am a parenting coach. I coach parents in person or using a video conference or by phone.  What sets me apart is, I am not teaching parents from a book. There is no manual for parenting. Each family is different, and so are the children. I am teaching thought patients, understanding, and experience. I understand the struggle of parents. I am raising my stepchild (my beautiful bonus daughter). I also have an IVF 29-week old preemie that is about to turn 6. In the process of raising children, My husband and I have to make sure we are on the same page when it comes to raising our children.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories as a child were when my whole family (my parents and two older brothers) would sit around the dining room table, and we would make jokes and having a great laugh. My house growing up was full of laughter. Still is. My parents, my brothers, and their family, along with my family, even get together every Sunday for dinner and laughter.
