Meet Vero Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vero Murphy.

Vero, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Argentina, in a very small town. I spent my childhood surrounded by nature. When I finished high school, I moved to the city of Buenos Aires to attend college. Although I had always loved painting, I decided to study a career that assured me a good job. I got a bachelor in Business Administration and another one in Accountancy both from UCA (Universidad Católica Argentina).

I worked for more than 15 years in Finance and Project Management for well-known companies. But I never gave up on my passion. After long days of studying and working, I always found time at night to attend art courses nearby.

A few years later, I got married and raised a beautiful family with three children. After living in Argentina all of my life, my family and I were gifted the opportunity to move to Brazil in 2011. Moving abroad was an enriching experience and a unique chance for me to decide who I wanted to be. I found myself painting a lot. Surrounded by an exotic vegetation, I made contact with local artists, which led me to experience new techniques and try new materials. I had my first solo exhibition there. When you move to a new country, where no one knows you, you don’t have to fulfill anyone’s expectations.

Five years later, we moved again, this time to Miami. Here I’m currently studying Fine Arts at University of Miami and Miami Dade College. I’m always participating in exhibitions and art shows in Miami, New York, San Francisco and, I also had the opportunity to display my artworks in Italy and  Spain.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been easy. Changing your professional career after many years requires courage and energy to start from scratch again.  Also, for women, it has always been challenging to balance family and work.

Please tell us more about your art.
My art is inspired by nature. Color is always the structural element in my paintings. I like to superimpose several layers, using acrylics and oils, occasionally even mixing in collages. It is through this “construction” process that I try to achieve the harmony and balance that indicates that the work is finished.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that in art, as in every other field, “hard work” is essential. You don’t have to be afraid to experiment, to fail and start again. And be patient… it could maybe take years to  achieve the quality you look for, so the most important thing is to never, never, never give up…
