Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Notes.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Will. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came from a family of musicians. I recorded my 1st song at five years old. Made my 1st beat at 10 years old. After graduating high school in 2006, the first artist I closely worked with was Sylvan Lacue (formerly known as “Quest”). I did over half the project “The Reason (The Defense Mechanism)”. Our biggest single together was “Automatic” which also featured coproduction with Logic’s producer 6ix on Sylvan’s “Searching Sylvan” album. Other production for Sylvan Lacue featured artist such as Mickey Factz, Omen from Dreamville, J Nics, Phresh James and Outasight on different records. My 1st placement with a major artist was Smitty “Bring it Back” on the Bigger than Life album in 2008. I’ve had a great mentor and manager Breeze305 who set up opportunities to work with Young Chris “Toe Tag” ft. Billy Blue on his “Gunna Season” mixtape and many local acts such as Webbz, Murph305, Johnny Brooks, Art Morera, ER 305 and Doolie Gang. At the beginning of 2019, I joined a production team called DaLabRats at Dalab Studios. I have been blessed to learn from guys such as Wood or MakeitBang, Neri Beats, RooThePoet, Richwell, Ty Divinci, and Dj Schreach. Recently, I won 1st place at a producer showcase provided by iStandard in Miami. Expect to see me at the next iStandard producer showcase Beast of the Beats XIII, working on production for commercials, placements with major artist and instrumental projects.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were many obstacles along the way. I have been producing since 2005. It’s been stressful to take care of priorities which made it difficult to be a full-time music producer. One key point is putting in the time. A big part of the process was finding my sound, find the artist to fit the record and making the song relevant to the era your in. Proper guidance and environment for success is key. This didn’t arrive till 2019 for me. Early in my career, there was a lack of willingness to educate myself on how important it was to build relationships and network. Talent and perfecting your craft is a about half the battle. You can have hundreds of beats and a few placements in a year. Last I would say is by being a good sound engineer. The sonics of music to gain a fan, artist and other industry tastemakers is vital.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Will Notes Music story. Tell us more about it.
Regarding my brand Will Notes Music, I would say my ability to bring a distinctive sound to music production. Making sure that the audio is refreshing and brings life to any vocals, commercial, movie and etc. I believe most peers would agree my ability to sample is one of the best in South Florida. I am most proud of the desire to get the best sound quality possible, willing to work in studio and quality service to the artists or labels.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel like luck has played a small percent in my career thus far. All the success that I have seen was due to putting myself in a position to make something happen. Being apart of a team that places themselves in opportunistic situations or in position for someone else to see an opportunity.
