Meet Trailblazer Luméy Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luméy Perez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born in Havana, I was given the blessing to move to the United States when I was two years old (my mom won the Cuban lottery- but that’s a different story). With this win, I grew up learning four different languages. I’ve worked in both Spanish & English commercials, done promo jobs in Miami, New York, and LA. Acting is my DREAM. Now, in my everyday life, I instruct yoga. It keeps me sane with all the roles I have to memorize (for auditions and whatnot). I love the high it gives you, makes me feel so unapologetically MYSELF. These two passions is what keeps me going.

Hopefully, one day, I can be wine drunk at my own movie premiere, but for now, I love giving people the gift of being themselves, period.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If it’s worth it, it’ll never come easy. I’ve been called so many names in auditions, the thick stuck automatically grows on you. You just have to keep your head high and keep crossing your t’s and q’s, someone is always watching.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a working actor alongside yoga instructor. I go to at least three auditions a week whilst juggling both mine and my yoga clients schedule. I’m a bit private about my personal life on social media. “Miamians” tend to breed an evil eye. I think what sets me apart most is the ability to speak a few extra languages. I’ve auditioned for both a French stewardess to Colombian bongo player, ha!

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
The more you attend places you have to be in, the more familiarized your face gets, and vice versa. For example, when I started attending my acting classes, I didn’t know who was who. Who specialized in drama, who was kinda sucky in comedy? The more I went, the more I knew who I wanted to talk to in order to fix a certain scene or simple expression.
