Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Hartley.
Katherine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up with an innate passion for the health industry. Yes, I was that girl begging their mom for a Fitness Magazine. I would sit, study and read every word. Living on a farm, outdoor activities were the norm – I was always playing soccer, running, riding four-wheelers, riding horses, bikes, anything! I loved being in the sun! With this passion, I decided to attend college to become a dietitian. I completed my B.S. in Dietetics and proceeded to work as a Nutrition Supervisor and Dietetic Technician at the local hospital. While working here, I felt that something was missing. I wasn’t helping as many people as I wanted to on a personal level. Therefore, I proceeded to work at the gym as a personal trainer. Here, I found my happy place. Seeing clients change and feel confident and healthy within their bodies. In 2016, I proceeded to complete my M.S. in Clinical Nutrition so that one day, I could open my own practice and assist more people in reaching their goals. I am currently completing my CNS observation hours to attain this credential. I now work full-time, transforming clients’ association with their bodies, food, and fitness into a healthy trichotomy. This is my passion, this is what I love and this is what I will do for the rest of my life. With my practice, I implement the psychology and science that I have learned throughout my six years of education along with my other certifications attained within the fitness industry to create a lasting change for each individual who wants to see consistent progress in their bodies.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been smooth, as it shouldn’t be and I would dare say that it will ever be. I began working at the age of fourteen, I have always worked and have always been rather independent. Though opportunities may have been limited, I am proud of my journey. After moving to Miami, I worked full-time and proceed to train every morning and night to simply continue and grow my experience within the fitness industry. I have worked within a few gyms and, of these, I believe my experience at Equinox was paramount for my growth. Here, I had to overcome many obstacles and grew to understand the concepts and foundation for functional movement and exercise. During the more challenging times, I would remember my vision for the future – to educate and help others love their bodies and love their health. Without health, I truly believe that we have little else as it affects all aspects of one’s life. How can we contribute to society or motivate anyone if we have no energy and feel unwell?
So, as you know, we’re impressed with KT’s Method – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am most proud of overcoming the fears I’ve had throughout this journey. Those moments when you think that you can’t, you push through anyway. With KT’s Method, I specialize in functional movement with proper nutrition to asset the goals of each client. I have a strong curiosity about human behavior and the “why” for which a person does everything within their lives. With this understanding, each person must be treated as unique and this is where I request that each client become as curious about themselves as I am about their health needs. Based upon the way you eat, your health history, and your overall “feeling” within your body, I begin implementing small changes to your nutrition and lifestyle – which includes movement, stress management and exercise. We both observe how you react and move forward continuing or changing what we have learned about your unique physiology. These are the things you will learn and I will educate you on sustainable fitness and nutrition practices that work for your lifestyle. I think this sets me apart from many personal trainers as I am able to utilize my Master’s degree in Nutrition and my experience within this field to assist with the functional health and longevity aspects of training.
Who have you been inspired by?
My cousin and grandmother both had a significant impact on my life as a child. My grandmother always appreciated beauty and the city life. These I grew to appreciate as well. My cousin had a rather confident aura which I admired. She wasn’t easily intrigued nor quick to dismiss her beliefs. She also carried herself with pride – few people disrespected her. I also admire women who are strong while staying humble, for example, Kayla Itsines. She had the strength to invent her own method of training while staying humble throughout the growth of her company.
