Meet Malira Dai of Malira Dai Holistic in Miami Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malira Dai.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Malira. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Some years ago, I suffered from nasal polyps; a condition which made it very hard for me to breathe. My senses were off, and my nose ran constantly. It was a very miserable experience. I initially turned to conventional over the counter medications and later progressed to prescription drugs which included steroid sprays and antihistamines. Unfortunately for me, I found no relief. The next step according to my doctor was to consult an ENT Specialist who assured me my only option was to have them surgically removed. After doing some research, I discovered the procedure was very pricy and could possibly result in vision problems. Strangely enough, I also discovered there were some people whose polyps came back after having them removed. This was more than I was willing to risk so I began researching natural remedies which led to several at-home experiments. I’m glad I took the natural route because eventually, the polyps fell out on their own without surgery. From that moment on, I was introduced to a whole new world of alternative medicine.

What really struck me about my experience was the fact that I’d spoken to multiple doctors and prescription after prescription, neither of them discussed any natural alternatives with me. Their recommendations were always pills and surgery.

They never told me how mucus-forming foods like meat, dairy and artificial sugar were trigger foods. They never explained how changing my diet would provide relief and since I really wanted to be completely healed of polyps without any complications, I took an aggressive, proactive stance which consisted of eliminating all triggers from my diet and turning to nature to bring about my healing. My first lifestyle change was consuming a plant-based diet, starting an herbal regimen and thoroughly cleansing my body of all the toxic waste. Shortly after making the changes, I noticed immediate benefits. I was sleeping better at night, I had more energy, my head and nostrils were clear, my skin was glowing and I felt happy.

In addition to the wonderful health benefits, something else about me changed; the way I viewed food. The most profound lesson that sticks with me to this day is just because something is edible, doesn’t make it fit for human consumption. Take pork for example. It contributes to high cholesterol, high blood pressure, internal parasites and obesity. Bacon may be delicious, bacon is edible, but considering the health risks, in my opinion, it simply isn’t fit for human consumption.

I was on a mission to live consciously about what I put in my body, so I also started paying attention to food labels. As the saying goes, if you can’t pronounce an ingredient, you shouldn’t be eating it. I remember thinking dang, 50 ingredients in a can of beans? I began researching the benefits and dangers of ingredients found in processed foods. It was very common to find there are more dangers than benefits when it comes to eating processed foods. As a result, I decided to start a small garden on the side of my home. A garden that has been growing ever since. It’s a great feeling knowing where my food is coming from and that it is free of harmful chemicals. There’s also something special and therapeutic about being outdoors with my hands and feet in the soil.

This experience has truly been my saving grace on the one hand and a bit frustrating on the other. I say frustrating because when I consider my community there are 20 or more fast-food restaurants, several small grocery stores that sell processed foods and zero fresh food markets. It is very easy to buy a burger, fries, milkshake, potato chips, cookies, soda, pickled eggs, hot sausages and candy but those who want fresh fruit and vegetables must drive 35 minutes away to other communities to eat healthy. On top of this, I’m constantly logging in to social media reading about a friend who has lost a loved one to a preventable disease. Death after senseless death opened my heart and eyes to what I felt I needed to do to help people live. I never thought in a billion years I’d end up where I am now. The girl who could eat fast food for breakfast, lunch and dinner is now an herbalist helping countless people reach their health and wellness goals.

Has it been a smooth road?
My biggest struggle to date has been stepping outside of my comfort zone. By nature, I’m an introvert and I’m quite comfortable behind the scenes. My journey thus far has required me to step outside of that bubble. Interacting with so many new faces has been rewarding but it has taken some getting used to.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Malira Dai Holistic story. Tell us more about the business.
At Malira Dai Holistic, my products are organic and non-GMO. They’re also homegrown and handcrafted. I’m fortunate enough to be able to grow them myself which means I know exactly where they come from. Grown with love from the time the seeds hit the soil. There are, however, some things I’m unable to grow due to factors beyond my control like climate or region. When this is the case, I source from reputable sources or I wild harvest them. I’m often in the woods with wild hogs and deer foraging along the way.

My specialties consist of herbal capsules, blends and tonics which produce medicinal benefits without the side effects and I’m very happy to say I’ve been able to help others.

From the women struggling with reproductive issues like fibroids and infertility to those who may struggle with weight, acne or chronic diseases. My emails are filled with positive feedback which makes me extremely proud. The reviews serve as confirmation I’m on the right track. My life-long goal is to promote good health maintenance. I want to help people before they get sick. I don’t like the idea of seeing people taking prescription drugs for illnesses that can be prevented or reversed naturally.

My company is most known for our parasite cleanse, it’s a top-selling product. Most people have no clue their body is riddled with parasites that contribute to weight gain, acne, depression and so many other health-related issues. After using the parasite cleanse, several customers have reported major positive health benefits which include but aren’t limited to having more energy, abdominal shrinkage, significant weight loss and mental clarity. One customer even reported of being able to play basketball with his son again after not being able to play for a prolonged period due to chronic inflammation.

My ability to communicate, interact, develop positive relationships and dispel misconceptions that exist with people of color is something that sets me apart from my competition. Most holistic companies I have come across are not owned by people of color and oftentimes, these companies can’t relate firsthand to the frustrations found in my community. From the very beginning of life, most people of color tend to consume culturally associated foods that are devoid of nutritional value. Foods such as white rice, white sugar, beverages that contain high fructose syrup, hot dogs, fried chicken, candy bars, soda, boxed cakes, processed meals and so on all contribute to the health hazards we face. Unfortunately, when our people get sick there’s a common excuse about diabetes, cancer, and obesity we grow up believing; “it runs in the family.” It is my belief these diseases do not run in the family. What runs in the family is are the poor choices we make, the lack of knowledge we have and the limited resources we have available. I share with them my journey and they feel comfortable confiding in me what their health status, issues, fears and concerns are. Typically, people come to me as a last resort. I make them feel comfortable and offer them alternative solutions they have never heard of. I assure them my goal is to help them transform. Whether by learning to live a more sustainable life through growing their own food, opting to cook more and eat out less or taking the necessary steps to be better versions of themselves. The results I have found have been the reversing of generational sicknesses and diseases that have plagued our community for far too long. Thus, giving our bodies and children a fighting chance to survive, thrive and live a life of happiness, peace and balance.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
This is a tough question for me because there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t learn something new. To be honest, thinking about the past gives me anxiety so I practice focusing on the present.

I don’t believe I can truly help anyone if I’m not right within so one of the ways I keep my mental health in check is focusing on the ‘now’. I don’t think about what I didn’t know or what I wish I’d known back then. My concern is what I know now and moving forward. I still have a lot of learning to do and with every book, every research article, every new client suffering from a disease I’ve never worked with before, I tuck new knowledge under my belt. Growth is a beautiful thing and I try not to overshadow that experience by dwelling on the past. What I didn’t know, I know now. What I don’t know, I’m looking forward to learning.
