Conversations with the Inspiring Raisa Laburtseva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raisa Laburtseva.

Raisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everything started with my daughter’ first birthday party three years ago. My friend showed me pictures with paper flowers, I knew I have to make those. The party turned out a huge success. After those friends of my friends asked me to decorate their parties as well. Then, I realized that I can earn some money like a wonderful hobby that can payout itself and with some extra left for ice cream for my kids. I am still working on developing my brand, I have tons of plans in what direction I want to go. Flower making is sure making me happy and my customers are delighted with my installations.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If you expect that you have an idea and everything else will be handed to you… wake up! I’ve had my share or sweat and tears here and there. The most painful was to lose my best friend to a business, and lack of understanding and help from some of my family. But that only made me stronger and even more passionate. It’s so hard sometimes I say don’t give up on your dreams. Find like-minded people, for example, networking in the area of your business. Put yourself out there, remember you are selling yourself first to a client, then you merch and services.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Paper Blooms Forever story. Tell us more about the business.
I love everything hand made, so my flowers are one of a kind. I put my creative mind and a customer’s vision into a lovely flower wall, giant freestanding blooms, and paper arches for any occasions really. There is never-ending applications of my flowers from weddings, showrooms, window displays, conventions, visual merchandising to interior decors. I am a huge supporter of women in business, I got inspired by Alexa Carlin with her Woman Empower X, I made flowers for her conventions. And then, I released that I can support my sisters in business through my flower art installation, to get us together under my the blooms and get to know each other.

Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Practice your people’ skills we all need each other. Try to make connections around you, build relationships around your business for your own benefit and for the benefit of others. We can go alone only that far. The best one that works for me doesn’t lose faith in your abilities. I wish you all the best you can do it!
