Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Rocque.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tyler. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Florida born and raised, I had the privilege of growing up with two strong women, my mother and sister, whom they supported me with any decision I made and any path I chose through life. After finishing high school, I decided attending cosmetology school to work on my skills and talent in doing hair is the right choice. What I love about hair is the fact that there is no one way to create something, and every day is different. As soon as I was done with cosmetology school, and got my license, I felt the need to get my feet wet. So, I decided to start at a haircuttery walking distance from my home. I worked there for two years and learned a lot from my peers who I worked with. Eventually, I ended up in my dream salon Sora where I was able to call home and was given the tools and freedom to excel and hone my craft.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Transitioning from the assistant role to stylist can be challenging. And of course, finding a salon that fits your dream is not an easy task. Growing in the industry can take time but I never gave up and tried to take steps toward my goal by learning new skills and styles every time I found the opportunity. Im not afraid to take a risk every now and then, they pay off.
Salon Sora – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I feel that at salon Sora we Truly are a family and there are no egos. Everyone will help each other formulate, throw in a helping hand, etc. I’ve actually had clients say that they enjoy the drama-free atmosphere. Cutting hair is my main passion. I love being able to take something and sculpt it into an entirely different and beautiful thing. Color is very fun, and I hear I am pretty good at it. I could say what sets me apart from others is my attention to details and the constant strive to truly make my client happy and feel beautiful when they leave my chair. If I notice the client is not satisfied even by their body language, I will do my best to satisfy them.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Obviously, styles and trends will change, to what, I am not sure. What I am sure of is that I have a chameleon soul, and I will do my best to change with the same pace as the industry. I do feel as though us stylists do have the liberty to set trends.
