Today we’d like to introduce you to Cooper Jackson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cooper. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am 19 years old born and raised in Jacksonville. Always wanted to play sports, started playing basketball in 6th grade and basketball introduced me to Jordan’s/basketball shoes. I got into the shoe game which is trading and selling valuable shoes, and through shoes, it introduced me to actual fashion and designers. I learned photography by taking nice pictures of my shoes and my fits. I slowly drifted from shoes and immediately fell in love with clothing. In 8th grade, I started learning how to sew and make full pieces. I took good pictures and learned how to do good advertising. I started selling t-shirts in 8th grade as a start but realized that I could do better. So, I spent years and years learning about designers and the history of the whole field. I made a lot of things that will never be released. I have been releasing full projects that include a short film, a lookbook and a collection of clothes this year. I am working on my 4th one right now. It’s called “Nirvana.” I have been working on perfecting all aspects and all of the ideas and fields that go into making a project. I will continue to release full projects for the next year and then if I am ready, I will create my own brand that I am hoping will last forever.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been very tough. I have always gotten good grades in school so when I didn’t want to go to college, my family didn’t understand what I was trying to do or what I have been doing. It is hard to not take the normal route and to stick to your gut. I have also stood out through most of my years since 6th grade because of the clothing I wore. I got made fun of a lot but praised a lot. You have to learn to take everything as a compliment or a lesson. What I have gone through in the past, has made me as strong and knowledgeable as I am today so although it may have been a struggle, I am very thankful for it.
Please tell us more about your work, what do you specialize in and most proud of.
I would describe myself as an artist. But an artist in all fields. Sometimes, I may be better than in other fields, but I am very interested in everything and want to do more and learn more! I specialize in clothing, photography, and film. I definitely would say I am known for my photography and clothing. Filming is still very new to me but I am working on it! I am very proud of the growth I have had in the past couple of years. I have learned a lot more than I could even imagine, and I have pushed myself very hard to release things and to be the best that I can be. What sets me apart from others is that I do everything for a reason. Whether it’s a picture or film or piece of clothing. Everything has a meaning to it or a story behind it. I am trying to influence people to live their best life and to appreciate what is in front of them more than they do now.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The last release that I had, I sold over 50 products and that made me feel pretty good because I have never sold that many. It also means a lot when people message me and tell me that they love what I am doing or that I inspire them, it’s a great push for me.
