Today we’d like to introduce you to Loni Paige.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from New York (Long Island). I always knew I wanted to be an event planner and started as a kid bday party planner in high school. I moved to South Florida to go to FAU, went back and forth to the city. I have had many lives! Internship at Ocean Drive Magazine in its heyday, Promotional Model, Flamingo, South Beach event director, Liquor sales, Cruise lines, Vitaminwater.
Got laid off like six times and finally opened my own company… I have kind of become the freelancer for everyone, most of my business comes from companies that are not based here that want to use me as their South Florida office or local event companies that do not need full-time staff or cannot afford me full time. I love to volunteer and if I could tomorrow I would try to move to Africa to help install water, save elephants and help women groups!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have learned that this industry is all about relationships and reputation. People ask how I get so much business and how I promote and advertise. I find myself in awe that it has all been word of mouth! There is always struggle for business owners…will I have another client, what is my next event, will I make my rent??
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Loni Paige Events story. Tell us more about the business.
I get asked that a lot, I do it all! If it seems fun, there is money to be made and can lead to more business I am not going to say no. As far as events, I do full-service planning, production support, staffing, coordination, decor, vendor sourcing, location scouting, silent auction set up, just to name a few. I am very proud of all of the charity work that I am able to do with Irie Foundation, The Little Lighthouse, as well as my time abroad volunteering. I am very proud of my involvement in South Beach Wine and Food Festival. I also was involved in Fyre Festival, which I know you are going to want to know more about.
What sets me apart… I answer my phone, emails, respond immediately, and never say no. There is always a way to get it done. After 20 years here, I have relationships and contacts that I can figure out a way to make it all happen. I planned a three days international conference in 72 hours!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success… Being able to not live pay check to pay check, I did that for a very long time. Not having to do any promotion or marketing to get business, knowing that I do a good job and people think to recommend me. Having a good reputation and making a difference in my community.
I also travel for six weeks out of the year, I know that being able to do that is a big sign of my success!
