Check out Backroad Events: Jacob Torrey and Lauren Nadeau

Today we’d like to introduce you to Backroad Events: Jacob Torrey and Lauren Nadeau.

We’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Absolutely! So we moved down here from Michigan about a year ago, and since moving here, we have been eager to start our own business together. We tossed around a lot of ideas, trying to figure out how we could merge our talents together and create something that would allow us to offer a service that others could really benefit from. After a lot of discussions, we decided that we wanted to start an events business that would combine event coordinating, design, photography, and videography services all in one!

So after we decided on our business venture, it was time for the hard part… picking a name for it! We wanted to choose a name that really represented not only us, but our style as well, so we threw around a lot of names and nothing really seemed to stick. We started talking about all the things that make us happy in life, and that got us reminiscing about some of the great memories we have together, and we quickly realized that almost all of them involve a backroad. We spend almost all of our free time outdoors, and a backroad always tends to lead us to the best fishing spot, the most breathtaking view or just a little much-needed peace and quiet. So there it was…. BACKROAD EVENTS!

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We like to describe our style as “rustic modern,” which to us means combining earthy elements with clean, sleek design pieces. Think farmhouse meets modern. We are inspired by the outdoors, so we really strive to incorporate it into everything that we do.

We love working in this industry because it gives us the opportunity to change people’s lives. Our hope is to offer our services to others, while simultaneously inspiring people to follow their dreams and pursue their own passions as well!

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
In all honesty, and as cliche as it might sound, we feel that the biggest challenge for people is just putting themselves out there. It can be really hard these days to follow a dream, but if you’re passionate something, don’t let anyone stop you. Everyone has a voice, and it’s your choice whether or not you choose to listen to them. Filter out the bad and only take in the good. You’ve got one life to live. Don’t waste your potential because you’re worried about what people might think.

DO YOU.

So we say go for it. Do what makes you happy, don’t pay attention to the negativity, and believe in yourself because you are capable of whatever you put your mind to!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
The easiest place to check out our work is either www.backroadevents.com or @backroadevents on Instagram!
