Conversations with the Inspiring Kaitlynn Marie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlynn Marie.

Kaitlynn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always into art, I took as many art classes I could be starting in elementary, all the way into college. Learning about different artists, paintbrush techniques, and the basic fundamentals of art was so interesting to me. It wasn’t until Myspace platform came around years ago, where I used to design my friend’s profile pages for fun. I ended up being really good at it, and eventually started charging people and making a few bucks to do what I loved! I used to color coordinate them, edit their photos with graphics to match their profile, etc. Thats when I wanted to turn my hobby into a career. From then on, graphic design was my passion and I have been doing it ever since. Aside from graphics, I stopped painting after college. I felt like it was more of a job (due to class homework, projects, etc) and I wasn’t enjoying it anymore. Four years ago, I got asked to create a custom piece for a family member and the reaction I got from my family member made me feel so good inside! I second guessed myself and my abilities as to why I stopped painting in the first place. Ever since then, I got back into it and developed an amazing balance between the two, (graphic design and painting) and I cannot see my life without either of them!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. The main struggle of mine was self-motivation. The main reason for that lack of motivation was fear. Fear slows you down and makes you hesitant and careful. I was the only one holding myself back. I would doubt myself a lot and ask the questions like “What if I am not a good enough artist? What if people don’t like my artwork?” I used to second guess my abilities and talent and would always get approval from someone else. My advice for other women is to not get in the way of yourself. Do not let fear stop you. Get up, get out there and become the best version of you. Ask yourself what smaller goals need to be achieved for you to achieve your end goal and schedule deadlines for yourself. Goal-setting, planning, organizing, and having a good sense of accountability will all help you in the long run!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
