Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Malone.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up in a single-parent household, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents while my mother was at work. My grandfather was a gifted saxophonist, and he began to teach me tenor saxophone from a young age. I quickly learned and began teaching myself other instruments. After becoming proficient in bass, guitar, drums, piano, and singing, I started to compose original music at 13. Although I continued to play jazz saxophone, indie music was my passion. Throughout the years, I have continued to hone my craft, and five years later, my music is starting to garner some attention.
Please tell us about your art.
I write songs in my bedroom. As I grow and mature as a person, my music does as well. I find this to be especially true for my lyrical content. When I was younger I only knew how to write simple love songs, but in my more recent work (and in my upcoming album), I explore many different themes, like existentialism, loss, and wanderlust. I hope people find comfort and beauty in my work, as I candidly discuss topics people can relate to. One’s art is the most intimate facet of his/her life, so when someone has the courage to share their story with the world, it should be respected as such.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national, or international events and issues affect your art?
Artists do not simply create; they present their interpretations and perspective of the world to the masses. In an increasingly polarized world, artists provide fresh takes on topics of discussion, muddying the lines between black and white. This gray area is where art thrives. My music reflects my response to this moral grayness, the hope, and desolation that I feel as a result of these events and issues. I feel I have succeeded if I have communicated these emotions to my audience.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My music exists on the interwebs. I am on all major streaming services; you just have to search my name. People can support by listening, saving it to their playlists (for the sake of the algorithms), and following me on their preferred platform.
