Meet Trailblazer Megan Star

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Star.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
So, I started modeling summer of 18. It wasn’t anything serious at first it was mostly for friends Depop but some other photographers found me via IG and just would hit me up to collaborate that’s when I guess things started to pick up and I started collaborating with a lot more people, more brands, I met so many cool ass people with all the same vision. I thank them all the time because it wasn’t for them (Hilary Dank, Mikala Reed, Xavier Luggage, Carianne Older a.k.a. Peggy, Gisselle from glitters thrift) I wouldn’t really be where I’m at today. Miami is pretty small so I just started networking more, putting myself out there more and meeting new photographers, models, actors, musicians, designers and it all really inspired me. I hate the word “inspire” but it’s really how I felt. Lol.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road. There was A LOT of photographers and brands I wanted to work with and they would completely ignore me. Then the inevitable thoughts of thinking you’re not good enough or thinking damn they don’t wanna shoot with me? Why not? Or photographers would plan shoots with me and then ignore me the day off. This happened so often to me I swore I was cursed, I had five shots cancel on me all in the same week while going through a shitty breakup and dealing with my moms divorce also hating my job lmao, but I live by “if it was meant to be, it’ll be” so I don’t stress it as much I just tell myself it’ll happen when it needs to. Plus, I started realizing things happen for a reason and if one door closes another will open. I know this all sounds cliche and super cheesy but it’s best to keep a positive mindset because it’s very easy to get trapped in negative thoughts and that’s not something you want to deal with. Mind over matter people, lol. My biggest advice is to do it because you love it, not for clout. Never give up, Keep a positive outlook. It’ll all come with time. You can literally do whatever you want with your life you know, it’s yours! Don’t be afraid to reach out to photographers or people you want to work with: 1. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it and 2. The answer is always No, unless you ask so just be yourself and do your damn thing! 😉

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Besides modeling, I love to act. I started acting classes a few months ago and I’ve never felt more comfortable. I’m a very adaptable person and super in tune with my feelings (PISCES TINGS!!!), so it’s fun to play around with different characters and emotions. I can pull off a lot of different looks too. If you want badass I can give you a badass, if you want sweet next door girl, I can do that too. It’s so much fun.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Sometimes, I feel people don’t take women as serious. That’s why I think it’s so important for us girls to stick together as much as possible and support and empower each other. Also, it’s important to speak up, stand your ground and don’t let anybody tell you what you can’t do.
