Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Muench.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a simple girl that grew up in Hawaii and there’s nothing incredibly notable about me or my story. I’m also clearly uncomfortable talking about myself. I’ve lived in a few places around the county, as most people do. I spent much of my 20’s in a bit of a daze, not really contributing much to my own betterment or society as a whole. I was, however, fortunate enough to be blessed with debilitating back pain from scoliosis which led me to find my passion of yoga and give me purpose on this planet. I had a couple of kiddos that gave me even more reason to improve myself and a desire to make the world a kinder place. Single motherhood and an unruly Alaskan Malamute named Love dog showed me my strength. Nowadays, I’m fully immersed in momhood and trying to be of use in some small way to my fellow Earthlings.
Has it been a smooth road?
The roads of life are not particularly smooth, are they? They’re filled with all matter of bumps and potholes, mud puddles and cracks. There are always obstacles and I still struggle daily with them. I don’t always have the answers. I’m actually just as clueless as I was 20 years ago, but I have learned that the obstacles are here for our growth, I promise! They make us the rad women that we are. It’s the rough waters that make us strong swimmers. Whenever I’m in the midst of a royal shit storm, I like to ask, what can I learn here? There is usually a lesson. And if I can’t see what it is, it’s also ok to cry to your bestie, have a margarita and deal with it tomorrow. 😉
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a yoga teacher that doesn’t take herself too seriously and has a genuine love for helping women thrive. I created an online platform for learning yoga and helping people transition to a plant-based diet.
I created Bananablondieyoga.com, out of a desire to make yoga affordable for everyone and to demystify living a plant-based lifestyle. So many people have an interest in yoga but can’t afford the typical $25 per class fee. Likewise, many perceive veganism to be an unrealistic or restrictive lifestyle when in reality, it’s about abundance and is super simple. The website is a platform in which I can help you every step of the way on your yoga and plant-based journey. 😊
I’m most proud of the awesome community we’ve built on the site. It’s a fun place to learn and connect with other like-minded people. There are loads of online yoga sites, but none of them have access seven days a week to their teachers. I’m available on our forum to answer everyone’s questions, or just chat and share. We do several fun yoga challenges each year in which we chat daily about the practices and everyone gets to know and support each other. It’s pretty fucking awesome. I also like to include classes that move in a sensual way, activating the divine feminine within. 😉 Oh! And I have loads of videos on the site about all sorts of wellness topics from chakras to nutrition, weight-loss and beyond!
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Most of the books I read these days are about parenting (single mama of two teens, Lord help me). One of my fave yoga books was Meditations from the Mat by Rolf Gates. I highly recommend!
