Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Oh.
Jamie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Hey! My name is Jamie, and I’m from Seoul, Korea.
I live in NYC, and I used to work in the beauty industry. Now, I’m starting graduate school in the fall for fashion marketing.
I would easily call myself an artist because I love to express myself creatively, especially through the outfits I wear and by sharing my images with others on social media. Interestingly enough, I majored music in college. I still write and sing my own songs, but most of them are not meant to be shared with anyone, so you won’t find them anywhere anytime soon – maybe one day I’ll publish them!
Along with my love for music and fashion, I like visiting modern art museums in my free time and just indulging myself in a creative space.
I visited Miami for four days on vacation not too long ago to get away from the Big Apple for a while, and I immediately fell in love with the vibrant and dynamic energy that it offered. I loved interacting with the incredibly confident and friendly people of Miami, trying some of the most delicious foods I’ve ever tasted, and of course, exploring the beautiful beaches.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I began to get serious about fashion after I graduated from college. Having come all the way from Korea by myself when I was 19, it was very lonely and intimidating at first. Interacting with others with a language barrier and adjusting to different cultural values was definitely a challenge for me. And going to a college where there wasn’t much diversity really didn’t help! But I knew that I’ve always had a good taste in fashion, and I was able to turn it around with the way I displayed myself in front of others. People around me began to take interest in me and wanted to get to know me better because they thought I dressed well, and that played a very big role in me being able to fit in. I began to feel welcomed and more confident about myself through my outfits, and that quickly became a passion of mine! So I’m very proud of my sense of style, which I think is a mixture of Western and Eastern fashion trends.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I share a lot of my “outfit of the day” posts on my personal Instagram, and I sometimes upload acoustic covers of pop and indie music as well. Also, I recently created a YouTube channel, where I will continue to post travel, beauty, fashion videos and just basically share my daily life in NYC.
I’m very easy to get to know, and I love interacting with all sorts of different people, so please don’t hesitate to check out my social channels! 🙂
