Check out Felix Junior’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felix Junior.

Felix, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born on a naval base in Virginia, spent most of my formative years in South Florida. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with printmaking and creative processes and learned that it’s easier for me to communicate my thoughts and ideas visually. Since then I printed a few things, painted a few things and now here we are.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Most of my work stems from watching way too much, obscure Ghostface lyrics, bright moments, memories of my grandma’s house, folklore, and my complete and utter disdain for the police.

Lately, I’ve been exploring hip hop and attempting to illustrate and expand upon it as if it were a modern day mythology with afrofuturist trappings. I feel the African diaspora has lost a lot culturally and hip hop is my favorite example of us trying to fill that void.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Find an artist you like and spam them with fire emojis until they respond. Or just put yourself out there? A lot of my success in making artist friendships has come from forcing myself to contact people for advice or critique and from signing up for events and shows that my introverted self normally wouldn’t sign up for.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a website; I have social media. You can find my work at www.felixjunior.com, on Instagram @felixjacksonjr and also on Twitter where I put all the jokes only I find funny.
