Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Pellegrino.
Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always loved the arts. Growing up I would always hope to get art class just so I could paint, sculpt, draw anything to be creative. From Sneaking my mother’s Polaroid camera as a child to graduating to those silly 110 cameras and so forth. I recall always having some sort of camera in my hand actually. At first, it became a hobby then it became a passion and as the passion grew stronger the cameras grew bigger.
In 2004, I moved to South Florida and this is where my real story begins. Let me back track a sec… I’m from NJ and a true Jersey girl at heart. but Everything changed when I jumped on my first sport fishing boat. Could it be possible? Salt water was flowing through my veins and I was hooked! I was catching fish, free diving, capturing the most amazing photographs ever all in the same day! I said to myself, I landed in a photographers playground and made this my home ever since.
Currently, my Art is on Exhibit at the Government Annex Building 115 South Andrews Ave Fort Lauderdale 9-5 M-f until 10/31.
I’m hoping to open my own gallery where I can showcase my work and inspire others and teach children to use the camera. I did a seminar for a children’s camp a couple of months ago for free and the children just are so innocent and loved the camera and participating in the process of shooting a camera themselves. they actually set up their own little sets it was adorable.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest obstacle and challenge has been trying to get media presence and my artwork in front of the right people. I think that up until the covid started it has gotten a little better because I have more time to put into social media since I can’t go anywhere.
I have been trying for 12 years to get this off the ground. I spent so many years helping everyone else meaning other artists become successful and never myself. Somehow I’ve always gotten lost in the background of things.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fine art photographer and painter I specialize in coastal and marine photography. I am known for my marine and coastal photography. I am most proud of the time I went to Guatemala and we brought clothing to the local school and village.
What sets me apart from others is that I am unique, but I’m sure everyone says that. lol I am me – Lisa Michelle Pellegrino – kind, caring, loving, considerate, compassionate, free flowing, free spirited, fun loving. sometimes naive, silly, tipsy, never drunk, chocolate chip junkie, fairy lover, owner of fairy wings, dreamer and a lover.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I never went to photography school.
