Today we’d like to introduce you to Yaroslav Aristeiguieta.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Yaroslav. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am originally from Venezuela. However, I consider myself a multicultural person, since I have also lived in Portugal in my teenage years and in the United States for the last 22 years. My career has been mostly developed in the corporate world, where I have worked in the fields of Organizational Development, Sales Support, Sales Training, and Supply Chain. I founded Humanly Positive with the mission of teaching positive psychology, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence tools to create a ripple effect in our community and foster wellbeing. Research has proven that happier people are more productive, creative, insightful, resilient, sociable, and successful, they are also healthier and live longer and this is a big plus for any environment where they live, work or play. What made me switch my focus entirely into wellbeing and happiness was a life-changing event when I was laid off from a 10-year job. A few years ago, I was in a high demanding management role under a lot of stress, sometimes self-inflicted, and went through drastic corporate changes. I found positive psychology looking for ways to manage stress better and enjoying life more. I thought to myself, everything we do doesn’t have to be about working our asses off, running back home to cook and rush over dinner to go back to sleep and repeat all over the following day. There has to be something more! I needed answers but didn’t have the time to stop and think. Until the day I no longer had a job, which for me was a great smack on the head. So, after that, I got the time and decided to look at successful people, so I read a lot about mental toughness, optimism, work-life balance and resiliency, and all of this, I was able to learn from the field of positive psychology.
When I started studying and practicing these interventions or techniques, I experienced a change of perception which gave me more peace, enjoying the present moment and living one day at a time which resulted in less stress and anxiety turning into big improvements in all areas of my life. I realized that by taking care of myself, I was actually taken care of everyone else that interacted with me. I was able to find another corporate job but thanks to my transformation I was able to enjoy it and deal with many difficult situations without the burden, stress, or anxiety. I can tell now that is not the amount of work you have that creates stress but how you feel during performing your job. Stress is created first in our minds before we can actually feel it in our bodies. That is why I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to teaching these techniques to others suffering from stress and lack of life and job satisfaction. With that purpose in mind, I created Humanly Positive to offer corporate training in the field of Happiness-at-Work which encompasses concepts of positive psychology, mindfulness, emotional intelligence, character strengths, self-compassion, kindness, purpose, and meaning, just to name a few.
Given that we spend on average half of our waking hours at work, many organizations and business leaders are increasingly starting to acknowledge that utilizing psychological techniques and know-how in the workplace is imperative. Although companies can facilitate and encourage a positive culture, with colorful offices, cafeterias, and corporate events, the employee is ultimately responsible for his/her own happiness, and satisfaction and this can be trained and developed.
Today, I’m a Positive Psychology Coach & Facilitator from the Wholebeing Institute and I’m a Certified Happiness Trainer by the Happiness Studies Academy, where I learned first-hand from Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar who is an expert in the field of happiness, positive psychology and leadership. So, I’m very proud of my decision of becoming a voice and support not only to my family and friends but to any person that would like to learn from me how to apply positive psychology in their lives, which have been proven to make a difference toward living a more successful, happier and meaningful life. This will be my legacy, I want to plant seeds in people’s consciousness by offering knowledge, experience, and support to help them thrive and flourish as human beings, benefiting society and contributing to a better WORLD. Humanly Positive was created having in mind those going through life struggles and circumstances so that they can have resources that provide the mental clarity they need to make the right decisions and become empowered towards a happier and more meaningful life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggle was mainly my focus. I was caught in the hamster’s wheel and had to be running all the time, without any time to stop and enjoy my life. I was getting up at 5 am, going to be at 1 am, once I remembered going straight to the following day with no sleep, just to finish a project that was not even that urgent. I created the urgency in my head, by taking so much work and by not setting boundaries. I had two small kids and a husband to attend and I was putting them second, and putting myself last. I felt like a lousy mom and wife, no time to clean the house or do errands, or much less enjoy a massage or a manicure. I was sometimes fantasizing about being sick at the hospital, on a bed, with nurses giving me food and medicines, and without the need to do anything at all. That bad I was!!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have many but one that I treasure the most if when I was living by the beach with the aunt that raised me and we were walking by the beach along a trail of Palmeras, I was like five years old and I remember feeling the breeze on my face and the salty smell in the air, the relaxing sound of the ocean while looking at the blue sky. That moment was so magical!! and it is now called “mindfulness”. We are born with that skill but somehow we forget along the way…
