Meet Wendy Gallego, DC of Shin Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Gallego, DC.

As an 11-year-old girl, Doctor of Chiropractic Wendy Gallego was diagnosed with scoliosis. The painful curvature of her spine immediately began to interfere with her life, forcing her to drop out of gymnastics and wear a back brace. After years of chronic discomfort, a college friend suggested that she visit a chiropractor, and she finally began to find relief from her symptoms.

More importantly, she was inspired by her chiropractor’s whole-body approach to wellness, which emphasized nutrition and lifestyle as well as treatment. This drove her to become a chiropractor herself while formulating the philosophy that “people should not be perceived as separately functioning parts, but rather as a complex structure of interdependent systems.” By founding Shin Wellness, she sought to create a holistic health care center that addressed physical as well as mental health.

Embracing Western and Eastern treatment modalities, Dr. Gallego looks for instructors and therapists with more than technical proficiency and a photographic recollection of the periodic table. She claims that “there’s a quality that comes with being a healer,” and she looks for that passion in all her prospective employees, whether they will be performing massages, conducting hypnotherapy sessions, or leading Pilates classes.

Shin Wellness brings together a team of highly skilled doctors, practitioners, and martial artists to provide services including chiropractic, acupuncture, spinal decompression, massage, aroma touch therapy, corrective exercise, tai chi and more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge is definitely juggling how to be a mom, wife, doctor and business owner well! Luckily, I love every role but I wouldn’t mind a bit more sleep!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Shin Wellness story. Tell us more about the business.
Shin is designed to bring health and wellness in a peaceful, nurturing environment, within a “zen cozy” setting. A distinguished group of specialists forms the team at Shin that focuses on the wellness of an individual’s mind, body and spirit. These multidisciplinary practitioners unite to help clients and patients.

Busy executives in need of personal growth and rejuvenation, athletes toning more than merely muscles, those who wish to improve their health relative to a specific problem or as a whole, a family wanting to grow together – the patients and clients at Shin are as diverse as the available services. From children at birth, to growing families, to those who have reached their mature years, emphasis is placed on the importance of wellness for everyone.

The deepest desire of the team at Shin is that you and your loved ones are able to obtain and maintain health and wellness naturally, in one location so that you are able to enjoy a better, pure and simply healthy quality of life.

The services offered are:

Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Medical Services, Decompression Therapy for herniated/bulging discs, Psychology, Neurofeedback, Massage, Exercise Rehabilitation, Homeopathy, Reiki, and Tai Chi

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Some might call it luck but I would like to think I have some angels with me, especially in some key points along the way. For instance, Shin seemed to take on a life of its own right from the beginning, with all the right elements coming together at the right time. The space, the doctors and practitioners, the support team- it was really quite magical!! It has been 14 years since, and don’t get me wrong- it hasn’t always been that way but looking at the overall picture, I sure feel blessed!!
