Meet Trailblazer Maurah Ruiz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurah Ruiz.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maurah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my YouTube and Instagram back in 2012. Back then, I was doing “Maurah’s Motivational Monday”, creating positive and uplifting content that launched every Monday. It was incredibly fun and I wish I had kept those videos but I deleted them as they weren’t my brand when I relaunched in 2015.

I started fresh with a makeup tutorial/reviews page and have over 85,000 views so far. My Instagram has grown to over 20,000. I’m super passionate and engaged with my community. I try to respond to every comment and read everything that comes through. My inspiration for fashion and makeup comes from my style icons Olivia Culpo, Lilly Ghalichi, and Paulina Vega. I’m also inspired by other influencers and artists. We create this content to inspire other people and I am deeply inspired by them to push myself to create more.

The city of Miami is also a huge influence on my work. I love bright colors, off the wall fashion, and outfits that look like they could be artworks all on their own. There’s something so beautiful about a city with so much diversity and culture. I try to capture that in my images and convey what I feel when I see the sunrise over the beach in Sunny Isles or the colorful lights of the Brickell buildings.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has been anything but smooth. I think when your pursuing a dream there is always going to be opposition and challenges. I do have a serious corporate job that I work at M-F very intensely. Sometimes, it’s hard for people to grasp how someone so professional can be so quirky and fun in another space, but at my core, I do believe I am a true creative at heart. My first dream job as a child was a photographer. I’m getting to live that dream now as a hobby and second job as an influencer.

My advice for young women is to follow your dreams, set goals for yourself, and don’t get too caught up in what other people may think. Never feel like you have to fit a certain mold of who you’re supposed to be. Explore your creative side and don’t forget to always give 110% in whatever you do.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My blog focuses on fashion and makeup but there’s definitely a bit of travel mixed in. I have a gypsy heart and love to wonder.

I’m proud of my career and everything I have accomplished in life and hope to move towards aesthetic blogging eventually. I currently work in the medical aesthetic field with strict regulations related to social media so work life and social media must remain separate for the time being.

As an influencer and YouTuber, I don’t overly edit my videos. It’s raw footage, 99% of the time I post the first take. I don’t get caught up in being perfect, I’m just myself and my subscribers know that about me. In terms of my reviews, I pride myself in being 100% honest in all of them. You won’t catch me saying I like a product when I really don’t. I am extremely careful with the brands I partner with for this reason. My audiences trust means everything to me and if my name is on it, it’s because I truly like the product.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I believe women, and men can do absolutely anything they would like to in the world. I have seen incredible advancements in terms of social awareness that women, unfortunately, don’t always receive equal pay for equal work.

This, however, is going to take both sexes, to come together and solve. We are stronger together and I am so proud to be a working woman.

My life goal is to inspire others to chase their dreams with passion, tenacity, and discipline.
