Meet Trailblazer Lahteefah Parramore, CPA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lahteefah Parramore, CPA.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lahteefah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in the inner city, of Newark, NJ, known as the ‘Bricks.’ The concrete jungle.

I always had a propensity to understand how to make money. At the age of three, I asked my mother, who was the sole caregiver of my older sister and I, if she had gotten ‘paid.’ With a perplexed look on her face, she gave me all the money she had and said: “Not one dollar better be missing when you bring it back.” I joyfully went to my room and counted the money over and over again, my imagination ran wild. To this day, I still remember the days when my mother would let me physically count her money ALL day, in her high-heels and a blazer. She taught me Trust and Integrity. That experience sparked my inner passion. To help people financially benefit from their purposeful passion.

I can recall at the age of 15, so many of my dear friends had passed away or were incarcerated. I thought I would end up with the same fate.

My mother felt the change in my sister and I, thus she leaped at the chance move out of the inner city in order to restore our Hope in life. That was another pivotal moment in my life. Recharged, I developed a strategy to attend college, graduated and was off to the world-renowned, the top performing financial institutions of business, Ernst & Young LLP. I earned my strips. One of the partners of Ernst & Young used to say that it was a great place to be from. The level of sophisticated business acumen, to this day, has been unmatched and I am forever grateful. At Ernst & Young and similar public accounting firms, I implemented strategies and drove the business vision for companies leading in their industry.

One of my first entrepreneurial businesses was an investor and strategist of an independent record label and music production company. I became a multi-millionaire before the age of 25, for many it seemed overnight, however, it required unshakable faith, steadfast determination, and belief in the collective vision and trusting that vision. This was one of the best experiences in my life. Our attorney missed key language in an agreement with an artist and another record label that ended up in a seven (7) year court battle. One of our trusted business partners stole over three million dollars (3) over the course of one year. And the copyright credentials were not filed correctly, thus, royalty income dissipated faster than I could say ‘royalty income’… which required another lawsuit. I am forever grateful for the lessons learned. Any best business can experience an uphill hardship… the business that can quickly turnaround… or has the agility to restore course — once it has been tested— proves how skilled the owners are and how developed the stamina of the business is.

I rejoined corporate America as a C suite executive. As a C suite executive, I lead the growth of a new business line from a loss position to over $10M in profits within two (2) years, continually surpassing quarterly and annual sales goals by an average of thirty-five percent (35%). I was the lead strategist and point of contact for a $12.0 billion dollar company with over 140 subsidiaries in over 6 continents. All while remaining true to my passion for assisting local grassroots non-profit organizations with awareness and financial sustainability, I consistently raise over $100K annually for the past twenty years for several community non-profit organizations.

What drives me to continue is to pass my knowledge on to others. When a client achieves a business goal or financial milestone, I am elated. I love toasting to another person’s success.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This is a deep question. All I can say is that I don’t look like what I have been through. Pursuing your passion requires a clear understanding of your ‘Why’.

A life-changing event occurred my last semester of college – I was taking 7 classes in order to graduate early, working full time, and taking care of my daughter. Just super driven, super focused. A month before graduation, my dear older brother by another mother who was my best friend, he was my motivator, he was my ‘every time I needed a smile’, anyone would think of him, light up any room with compassion, type of person; was murdered violently in East Orange, NJ. I remember thinking — how can I honor him… I can honor him by diligently pursuing my passion. That was my ‘Why’ for many years. My son Justin, my daughter Samiyah and my Mom, smiling and being able to financial support them adds to my ‘Why’. My advice would be to truly understand your ‘Why’… once you understand your “Why”, no matter what struggle or roadblock or uphill battle occurs, affirm your Why.
